Can anyone school me on the difference between the fixed mount Harris and the swivel mount types, and how to tell by looking ? I found a used deal and I don't know which it is and neither does the seller

swivel mount has a big thumb set screw in front of it, on the mount:

Cohutt,
You like to show off dem 'spensive bullets that you picked up at a CRB friendly price don't you?

I think I remember seeing that big set screw, and wondering what is does.
Thanks guys, I may save about $60.00 if it is still there tomorrow

after i started casting, i've conditioned myself to think any bullets paid for don't completely qualify for crb regardless of the price....
actually they were there when i decided to take the pic, i was considereing doing a photo inventory of all my "stuff" today while the weather sucks (and mrs cohutt is driving home from Florida)

Well that was a wasted trip. Not only was it not a Harris, it was not a swivel mount.
I guess I will order a new one... should I get a 6-9" or would a 9-13" be better for critters

I like mine a little taller, works from a "high prone" (up on my elbows) to a sitting position.

But I don't use that rifle for "bench work"

I can't sit on the ground for long without my leg hurting like hell, So I will stick with prone or move to a bench when available.
How about the swivel feature?
I know that keeping a gun/scope level will improve accuracy, so it seems to me the swivel type Harris, though much more money, might be a good thing, but bein a CRB, I am hesitatin to spend more than absolutely necessary.
Plus as fate would have it, when I find a good price on the bipod, they are out of stock on the damn CRB mounts

Well throw out all that crap about CRB bipod mounts... I went with LaRue Tactical and a Harris S-BRM. They should be here tomorrow

I have been using Harris bi-pods for 26 years.
Last year I deer hunted with a Harris on the gun and Stoney Point Steady Stix in the pouch on my belt.
The Steady Stix represent a much lighter system, and I think I will do something different this year.
I still like the Harris for walking around varmint hunting.
