I am using a cast 130grain truncated cone lead bullet in my 9mm.
Have had some good results with Alliant's PROMO powder.
Picked up a terrific book called "The Glock in Competition..." and the author suggested using Unique as a powder.
Any suggestions?

I like Unique for full power to +p loads. It fills the case nicely, almost too much for +p, & accuracy is extremely good. Using 5gr under a 124grLTC gives me right at 1200fps from my BHP. Using the 124gr XTP, that same BHP has printed 5 shots right at 1" using 5.5gr. Work up to these loads as they are warm, pushing +p depending on whos manual you believe.:yesnod:

My load with Unique is 5.8 grains under a Speer JSP. Some people go as high as 6.2 grains under the 124gr XTP.

i tried some 125PF ish loads with 147gr plated and unique and i didnt like it.

i may retry this as i am thinking about some clarkish loads for steel....see how nasty i can get something like a 95 gr or 115gr bullet.

I use 5.1 grains of Unique unde 115 gn FMJ and it's awesome. I have made close to 10,000 rounds with this charge so far, and I'm not planning on stopping!

I tried that load. It shot pretty well.

Before I switched to WSF, I used to use Unique in 9MM. My logbook shows that 5.8grs under a 115 gr XTP gave me good accuracy, 6.0 not so good, and 6.2 the best accuracy.

6.2 is a full case, and on my 550 I place the bullet in station 2, then index. This keeps the powder from spilling out during indexing.

Unique ROCKS in the 9mm. Esp. with monster big charges.

IIRC Unique was messy to work with. I was loading with a 650. The bullet was a 115 grain FMJ. My data says that I could load it up to 6.6 grains (for 1200 fps). However I found that the case was a compresion load with as little as 5.3 grains.

Becuase it fills the case up so full lots would spill out as the shell plate auto indexed.

At 6.6 grains you might as well be loading it like the guy in "How to load 38 spcl and kill a beer."

As for how it shot. Shot great I guess I guess I really did not notice it being some how super special.

I kind of have a warm place in my heart for Universal Clays becuase it is so thrifty.

If you really want to load on the cheap try it out. I can get almost 1500 rounds on a pound of Universal Clays.

I really do not know how you can get a monster charge with unique. unless you are packing it down with the eraser on a pencil.

You can get 6.5 grains into a 9mm case with a long drop tube.

Does that pack it in tighter. I guess it must.

Seems like this might be tough to do with a dillon 650.

That's what you get for using that ugly progressive devil contraption.

I've had great accuracy with a minimum 4.1 grains over a 130 grain cast boolit. In my Taurus PT-92 I got a 4 outta 5 shots in a 2" group shootin' offhand at a 100 yards!...jes kiddin', more like 12 yards. Gettin' good accuracy outta my g-35 with LWD conversion barrel too. I just started this load too, ain't had to work it up any, although I 'll a few just to see, but for now I'm more than satisfied. Remember, your gun may turn out different.

Thanks for the info. I am having good success from my conversion. To recap, I put together a Lone Wolf stainless steel G34 length slide on my G17. I shoot almost exclusively lead bullets, so a replacement barrel was needed.
Put a very nice Lone Wolf s/s lands&grooves G34 length barrel in the LWD slide. Part of the conversion was the rear sight height. Ultimately, dropped the rear sight height to zero the groups.
Cost was less than half the price of a new G34. Still want one, and by the way, want a G35 too.
