Is there any one powder that would be suitable for use in both rifle and pistol cartridges - specifically the 40sw, 44mag, and 223rem cartridges?

If that is not possible/practical, how about using just one powder for both the 40sw and 44mag...I see that there is data available for Unique and Blue Dot for both of these.

I know that a lot of you guys like Unique for 40sw. I've never tried it. How does it meter? I found some 44mag data in Lyman's 48th that shows a MAX load of 11.5gr for 1074fps. This is weak. But ALL of the 44mag data in this book is like that. Can Unique be used for full power 44mag (240@1400+)?

I purchased some Blue Dot yesterday and loaded up some for my 40 at:
6.3, 6.7, 7.1, 7.4 and 7.8gr all at an OAL of 1.125" per my Hordany manual for the HAP bullet. Plan to go shooting today and see how they work out. Only made up 5 of each to test. The guy at the gun shop who also loads his own seemed real knowledable (has a 1050 machine). I'll let you know how the powder works out later this evening.
