Plate rack

Does anybody know the dementions of the plate rack for a GSSF match? I looked on GSSFonline and couldn't find them. I want to build one for practice.

Glock did that so it would fit in the back of there truck so they would not have too take the trailer too all of there matches.

Thanks for the info. I am getting close to building one and that will make it a lot easier. Our club holds the Ohio match and we use the club plate racks. I wonder if they will still be able to use them.

If GSSF does not bring their plate rack they well use the clubs. And some times they well use both even if they bring their racks. That has too do with how much room the club has too set up all the courses of fire. If you have a choose of the speed rack or the old style take the speed rack. At least I like it a hell of a lot better. Even thought I’m ¼ owner of a standard plate rack.
If I were going too build a plate rack I would make it the speed rack. Less steel, = lighter.

That's the same thing I was thinking. I going to have to be able to haul it and set it up by myself.

I finally had a chance to build my plate rack. It's only four plates because I wanted to to be lite enough to set up by myself. It's nothing fancy but should help keep me from embarrassing myself at the next GSSF match.

I bought them from a couple of local guys that are trying to get into the target making business. They have a computer cutter and it will cut anything you can draw on a computer. The plates are AR 400 steel and will stand up to a 30-06.

The plates were $30 each. The rest was made from scrap at work, so I have $120 in the whole thing.

It's 3/8" AR400. The guys I bought them from showed me a 12" plate that is 3/8" AR400 that a friend of theirs shot with a 30-06 from 10 yards and there was barely a scratch.

That 3/8" AR400 is fine with an '06 or a .308, but if you shoot it with a .223, nasty things start to happen.
It's not the actual energy, but rather the velocity that does the damage.
The threshold for cratering seems to be right around 3000 fps.
I built some poppers for the Mich 3-gun a couple of years back, knowing that rifles would be used on them @ 100 yds. or so.
The material I used on them was 1/2" Hardox 500.
The plate was tested with .223, 7.62x39, .308 & '06, all from 22" or longer bolt guns for max velocity. Testing @ 25 yds, virtually zero plate damage.
All rounds were mil spec, fmj; the 7.62x39 was steel jacketed Norinco.
After the match, the only damage was a couple of small 1/2 craters, from edge hits with SS109 ammo.
The Hardox 500 is a quantum leap above the AR 400, but quite a bit more of a PITA to work with....there is no drilling holes, hi-def plasma is the only good way to work it. AR 400 can be drilled, as can 450, we do it all the time for our equipment.

Thanks Uncle Albert that's some great info you gave. I was wondering if my plates were good for my AR. I won't be trying it now.
