Been a while but I ordered a BC mold earlier this summer after MMaP99 and others suggested them. Their projected delivery date was almost 2 months at the time I ordered but it arrived a bit sooner.

It was a few weeks before I had a chance to cast with my new toy due to summer heat and other things, but when I attempted to assemble the mold the handles didn't fit! One leg was .004" too thick to fit the slot in the mold.

Sent BC an email and they promised to send out another pair of handles and include a return label to ship back the defective set. Sure enough a new pair soon arrived and I set out to the garage to see how these would fit. Well hot damn they fit. I envision piles of 9mm bullets all over my work bench come the weekend.

The weekend comes and I fire up the pot and start pouring lead. It soon becomes apparent that (A) I can't cast lead for crap or (B) the mold is defective. Hell I know I can turn lead into little round slugs so it's gotta be (B). Sure enough the mold will not close properly and I have fish bullets, yeah they have fins!

At this point I'm just pissed off since this mold was pretty pricey! I had not sent back the defective handles yet so I packaged the whole mess up and sent it all back. I also sent yet another email about my latest issue with the mold. Here's a line from that email:
"To state I'm less than satisfied with Ballisti-Cast products would be an understatement. I feel a refund of the purchase is in order and I shall seek a mold elsewhere."

Five days later I get a phone call from BC about my returned goods. Peter is polite and explains that the mold needed to be "adjusted" and everything is now in order. He mentioned my request for a refund and assured me the problem was solved but would refund my money if I wished. I agreed to give the mold one more try.

It arrived within a week and indeed looked better than the first mold, meaning you couldn't see light between the mold halves when closed. Several weeks passed before I hit the garage to test it out. All I can say is this thing will cast some first class projectiles once you figure out the sweet spot in terms of temperature. Seems like this 4 cavity mold needs to be run hotter than I'm used to in order to get good flow & fill out.

Of course now I can't help but think I need one to cast 40 cal bullets. Dang I knew this would happen!

Thanks again guys and especially to Dan for the help behind the scenes and prodding me along.

Good show. BC used to be two weeks delivery time and the product delivered was always first rate. I hope what happened to you isn't common practice now. Quite frankly, I have never heard of anyone with your experience.

BC ain't cheap, but it's like crack or Snap On tools. You'll never go back. Speaking of which, now you got me wanting to dust off my moulds.

The comments from both of you guys about quality are sooooo true, I'd have a tough time even considering another brand for my next mold purchase now.
Initially I had a tough time pouring with the channel style sprue plate but once I got it figured out the thing rocks.
I'll try to take some pic's of the mold and the finished product, gotta play with the macro setting tho.

And next thing you know you're out of wheel weights too.

Here's a few pic's of my bullets, didn't take one of the whole pile. I'll have to take one of the mold next time I cast as I completely forgot on this go around!
The parting line on some of them looks nasty in the photo's but is not that obvious when viewed by the naked eye.
BTW the date stamp is incorrect on my cam in case you noticed.
Happy New Year guys!

Thanks for the kind words gents. Of course I pulled the best looking ones then buffed & polished them for a few hours and finished them with some Photoshop magic!

Naw I can't even open Photoshop much less use it. They are mostly just wheel weights along with a little touch of 50/50 bar solder. I do have ingots of reclaimed indoor range lead and I add that into the pot also.

Not very scientific huh but it works for my needs. Dan can tell ya I just like blasting, even if I can't hit anything.

To quote one of my buds - "I like turning money into noise".
