I have two AK varients. As to whether they are AK. AKM, or what I will let my betters decide.

My first is a pretty standard Yugo underfolder. The pictures where taken right after I bought it. Since then I have added a scout scope mount.
http://161.58.206.244/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=scoutscopes&Product_Code=AK-1B&Category_Code=akscope
The thing I like about this scope mount it it does not have to be removed to take off the dust cover or the gas tube. It is also very secure. The thing I do not like about this scope mount is that it is a little high. To get a good Cheek weld I have to use the dust cover. The trigger is scary light and very smooth. However it has a small amount of slap. I am not sure what to do about the slap.

My other AK is a Arsenal SA-M5. This pretty much means that it is a milled receiver chambered in 223. I got this weapon and something like 12 magazines and a scope in trade for a HK P7M8. I know some of you might be startled by this trade. However I never really shot the P7M8 and it was more like owning a fine watch that you never wear. The weapon is about as accurate as an AR out to about 100 yards. I have not tried to shoot it out past this.

The scope that is mounted is this PK-AS http://posp.ru/pks01.html. It takes a little getting used to because you left eye looks through the scope while your right eye can still use the iron sights. My main frustration with the weapon is that it dents the brass really badyly on ejection. I am still trying to figure out a way to reduce the damage. The brass is coming back hard and fast and smacking the dust cover. Also if you do not use a brass catcher the brass is launched into a nearby zip code.

Whats accuracy like in those AK things out to 150? Real numbers, not minute of bad guy.

looking around on gunbroker I see alot of AK's out there but what's one from another? How do you know what's worth buying and what is junk? How do you know you're buying quality but not "collectability"?

Some of them have 10 round magazines? wasr?

Some of them are ?extra specially collectable? Nornico?

It seems hard to find a good AK 47 with laminated furniture for a decent price... (under 700).

Am I missing something?

With the iron sights on an AK, at 150 yards you should have no problem keeping them in a 16" circle.

The sight radius on a AK is short, and it's not known to be the most accurate gun in the world.

The Norinco's are collectable because they were banned by the Dope from Hope,AKA Bill(I committed treason) Clinton. I guess the Chinese didnt give his reelection fund enough.

The Polytechs are high because they were the best of the Chinese milled receiver AK's that were coming in.You cant touch one for less than a grand these days. If you arent a collector though, the cheapo Romaks will do exactly the same thing. The Yugo's,Romaks,Polish are whats been coming in the country and althoug some of them are pretty rough, they work.

Really, all AK's are built with the same parts. Some look better than others, some look like they were finished with a chopping axe and some look well fitted. It's still a good buy, but they are drying up fast. When the next regime takes over, it may be the last of them.

Shootin a AK is more fun than jus about anythang else for all out go bang kinda fun.

Thye about as accurate as a Mini 14 or *maybe* a Mini 30, but they ain't gonna be winning any hardware at a BR match by a long shot.

Ammo used ta be crazy cheap for em, not so now.

Still a whole lotta fun any way ya look at it.

Cain't break em, cain't kill em, they just keep on workin. Kinda like a Glock in some respects.

Best of da bunch ta buy is a Bulgarian (IMO) milled receiver version. Some a da best fit an finish you a ever see is from da old school SLR-93/95 guns an subsequent versions witout da butthole stock.

Accurate ? Kinda, dat depends on your version a accurate

Reliable ? As hell

Fun ? More than you a ever imagine

Stamped receivers OK, milled OK, WASR's were at one time 10 rnd single stack only.

If ya buy one, make damn sure it a take a 30rnd mag.

Chicom 75 rnd drums run da best

Pencil barrel gets hot enough ta put a brand on ya ass after just a couple mags so be aware a dat, else you a learn dat da hard way.

But, you a only grab dat barrel once, if ya decide ta forget about dat choice lil tidbit a wisdom.

I got mine so hot shootin a couple drums thru it, if ya stick it in a bucket a water it a boil like hell

For real.

If you can find a AK-74 that ammo "5.45x39" is still pretty cheap. and fun as hell to shoot. as slick said though the AK-47 "7.62x39" ammo has doubbled over the years. still bout a180.00 a thousand where as the 5.45x39 is bout 120.00 a 1080. but they are fun as hell to shoot, exspecially since you dont reload for em so you aint counting rounds and bendin over lookin for brass, you just let em fling.

I have a AK-74 and plan on picking up a AK-47 at the next gun show....best go get you one anvil, maybe they let you put it in that gumball machine you be driving, once your all healed up and back pounding the pavement.

One beautiful thing about the AK that no one has mentioned is its ability to be "bump" fired.

That is where you stick your finger in the trigger guard and let the recoil of the first round bump the rigid trigger finger until it dumps the whole mag...almost on par with an automatic, but not quite.

It sure does sound like it and look like it though. With the gun rocking all over the place you can hit squat with it but is sure does impress everyone at the range.:subgun:

We get a 5% (works out to $98)raise and a $350 uniform alotment on the next paycheck.

Down the street at Guns & Ammo they have a Yugo stamped reciever AK I might have to put money on.

I remember when I 1st got all the USA parts (+ some...can't have too many on an AK) for my Bulgarian SLR-95 AK that bump firing was a cinch! I think it was from K-VAR where I got the USA made trigger (counts as 2 parts) but with that trigger set up, it makes a mighty fine shooter.
