Tonight was my last night for 9 mos. I will have day shift Tuesday through Friday 7 A to 5 P until next January. I finshed with a bang got a DUI tonight who just had to run a stop sign, (hell , didn't even slow down for it) as I was trying to go home for lunch....he blew a .305 and .302. FST's were a waste of time.

Won't be any doubt on the reason for the stop, the DUI made it on my digital camera. Our camera's record all the time but only when it's recording will it give you the minute prior to activation.

The reason for so long on days as we bid shifts. I'm senior, I go first. Makes the wife happy and I get to poke holes in targets on the weekends. First match on days is this coming Sat. :sniper:

Lucky bastard! My dept is 1200 + and to get a bid day spot takes about 6 or 7 years in the worst area.

I've got right at 5 now so it wont be long.

.305? You didn't really need a camera to articulate how much probable cause you could have had on that fella if you followed him for a minute.

Every six months we bid on shifts and off days based on seniority. You get kicked around for a couple of years and then it smooths out quite well.

We bid yearly for patrol who work a 4/12 , 4 off schedule, no bump for CI, Agent's or Lieutenant's. Still have enough turnover that it can take as little as 2 years for an officer to get on a day shift in at least one of the districts if that's what they want.

You guys have trouble getting to daywatch? In my dept everyone hates days, so I've gladly been on daywatch for five years. I recently changed divisions to go work a gang unit. The hours there are 2 to midnight. I'm going to miss the 12hr shifts, 10's aren't bad but having four days off a week is always good.

Congrats. I hate working nights in the conveyor business, I don't think the policing business is any better.

On a side note, .30+. Damn. I think most people would be passed out.

Yeah no kidding. I had a guy one time blow .54. He did'nt slur speech, did not stumble while walking, I was shocked. We had to take him to the hospital for MT cause his BAC was so high. Just a life time drunk that had a very high tolerence for booze.

Yet I've had .16 falling all over the place, go figure.

I thought somewhere around the .40 range was considered fatal? Talk about a tolerence.

Yeah, I know chicks who loose it after a glass of wine, at .02. Every one responds differently to booze.

Maybe the 18th amendment wasn't a bad thing (that was said jokingly before you all jump on me).

I've seen a couple in the mid to upper .4 range and they functioned rather well. Practice, practice, practice.

Anything over .30 has to go to the hospital. I had a ER doctor tell me that he has seen fatal alcohol poisoning at .30 levels. Every body type is different I guess. I stayed on days for so long cause I try to avoid DUI's like the plague.

Well, it turns out the guy gave me a false name and the jail missed it as he had been booked for DUI last year.

So now I'm fixing his wagon.....has a warrant to boot with another name. I'm going to have ICE do a interview. :hereyago:

Last guy I had ICE interview got deported.

The Chief asked me if I would take a guy who wants to be a reserve out for a ride along. I said OK knowing the poor guy could be in for a boring day. But I thought I would at least try to make it some what worth while for him.

The county next door asked for an Agency Assist with a guy at a residence wanting to fight with the nearest deputy 30 miles away. I follow the Chief over to the call. We were running about 80 so I asked my rider if he liked to go fast. He said hell yes! This was a red flag for me so I stepped it up a bit and I asked if he had the choice between looking for a 3 year girl who is always being called in as being lost, or going on a high speed chase, which would he rather do? My rider said looking for the girl of course. OK right answer. So I stepped it up a little more. The road we were on has some pretty curvey parts. I sat up the curves and hit the gas going though them nice and pretty. Next thing you know my rider is holding onto the grab handles with both hands. He said "maybe I don't like going fast after all". I told him he could relax as I am the EVOC instructor and I haven't lost one yet.

Later back in town I decided to run some radar in my favorite fishin' hole. We sat there for about 15 minutes when a rice burner came into my beam at 44 in a 25. Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner.........get him stopped and he said we just liked to screw with fast cars. Next thing you know I'm yelling at him to have a seat in his car. Turns out I was the third Officer in as many weeks to scratch him out a ticket. I scratched him for 44 in a 25 and not having insurance. Sucks to be him. The driver said he was taking me to court.....

Fun thing is one of our office girls did some digging and found a warrant for our driver after I went back to the office. The reason it didn't show up is the county that issued the warrant put down the wrong year in the DOB.

The Chief had a good time watching my video as he had never seen me yell at someone before. I keep telling him I don't as long as the BG goes with the program.

Yeah all need to really see the professionals:

Saw a female off a native american reservation that was still breathing a t 0.713 although she had head bleed. We make guesses at BAL with patients....some are rock steady well over 0.3xx others well you get the wimps that are puddles at 0.12x.........

Straight nights aint that bad. Much less BS with management takes place at night.

I start my five midnights tonight.
Two days off.
Five afternoons.
Two days off.
Here's where it gets odd. I'll have five day shifts then ONE day off, and back to five midnights. When it marches around to day shift it'll be four day shifts and two days off, then in a month or so I'll have another five-day-shift, one-day-off.
We're actively lobbying for one steady shift, seniority picks.

I did that kind of an oddball rotation for a few months. Some guys loved it, I hated it. It seems all I ever did was work.

I'd kill for steady shifts & seniority picks, even if I was on straight nights.

Bad thing about days though I get some of the worst cases. I helped with a child abuse case. The dad was burning the kid with cigarettes for not making it to the bathroom. There were burns on both arms and legs, back and buttocks. I hope dad meets some guy by the name of Bubba in Walla Walla.

I trust you gave the father some verbal whiplash. Horrible.

Dad and I have a long history which I won't go into. The only time I wish to see him or speak to him is when he gets arrested. There are 2 people in this world I hate, and the dad is one of them. If he doesn't comply, I would think about running down my Tazer battery on his azz. It's new and at 97% right now. The lying SOB. :hereyago:

UPDATE.....dad went to jail. Seems these were not burns even though 3 Doc's thought they were. The kid took change from the house to buy a soda at school. dad found out and shot the kid 36 times with a airsoft pistol from about 5 feet. The bastage. The step mom could also be charged as she was there when it happened and did not report it.
