I know its not reloading but I did not know where else to place this....

I am going to get a 20 ga. to keep in the house and have not found exactly what I want..which is an 18 - 20 inch barrel with a magazine tube that goes to the end of the barrel....is there such a thing????

I like the price of the Mossbergs but the tube is a couple inches short and I have been told that there are no extensions...

Info appreciated..

Wilson Combat makes a mag entension for the 870s. Worked nice. Had one a few years back.

12ga is the standard, but is overrated. Especially for HD, go 20ga for lower recoil. It will still stop the BG with a nice slug in the chest. I have personal experience with a 20ga stopping a BG. Trust me, it will do the job. I wouldn't be here if it didn't.

You're talking 2 legged critters and not 4 legged critters?

for shooting paper. I like 45 ACP for offending others.

Yes. I was a teenager and it happened when I lived in Milwaukee. Two days before the incident, I got held up on my way to school. Then they came to the house. I relive it almost every night.

That is the reason we moved to Green Bay.

The 12 ga is dominant in LE due to its versitility and the many different shells loaded for it. This in no way decreases the lethality of a 20 ga or a .410 ga. Many people fail to realize how devestating either of the later two shells are or can be on humans. I know of several homicides where single shot .410's were used and multiple persons were killed. So I would not hesitate to choose either of these for a home defense shotgun. FWIW Freak, things do eventually get better with time. Dreams are your minds way of processing what happened in order to deal with the matter and cope.

I got mugged in early '06, which is the reason that I now carry everywhere (got my LTCH just to have it when I was 18, never did intend to carry). It took a while for nights to become normal again, and reminds me why I own multiple firearms.

.410 isn't in the same league with a 20ga!

I hope so. I can still smell the gunpowder from that night. Been wishing for many years that smell would go away, but it hasn't.

20 gauge with buckshot will do the job. I wouldn't worry too much about extending the magazine. I carry a 12 gauge single shot while camping and a bit of practice lets me reload it quickly. Mossberg can be a smooth action but I think the Remington 870 is stronger. I've seen too many broken parts on Mossbergs. Here in DC shotgun barrels must be at least 20 inches long.

I've seen the short slug bbls with iron sights. Can buckshot be safely shot out these?

Yes as long as it's a smooth bore. I wouldn't use one of the newer rifled shotgun barrels for buckshot. Not that it's dangerous but it wouldn't pattern well. A smooth bore cylinder choke slug barrel works fine for buckshot at short ranges.

In a house it is not going to make any difference what the pattern is. In a normal size room in a house. You well have very little spread. Most shotgun loads use a shot cup that well hold the shot together, for the range you are talking about. Even with out a shot cup you still have very little spread at that range. A pump shot gun is the way to go. Most normal person knows what the sound of a racking slide is on a shot gun, and well leave. A 20 gauge well work just fine.

If you can stock up on low recoil 12 gauge buckshot, it's good stuff for a 12 gauge. It's not always easy to find though.

I use a mix of Mag # 4, and Federal Hydrashocks LE Tactical Low Recoil or Federal Truball Mags and Mag#4 for HD
