Thats what I do as well. Lee lube is cheap. One Shoot is a little pricey in my book.

Just get some liquid lanolin and add the 99% ISO to it, works just as well and you avoid having to buy Lee lube.

How much lanolin do you add to the iso? And how much of the formula do you use per "X" pieces of brass? Just ballpark it. Thanks.

I bought lanolin in a hippy healthfood grocery store... there's some irony in using it to lubricate shell casings.

Can't find 99% iso alcohol for the life of me, though... checked 4-5 grocery/drug stores and the best they had was 70% or 91%. So the lanolin is just sitting on the shelf for now.

Use dry gas from the auto parts store, ISO heat red bottle.

Yep-just ball park it! Really doesn’t take much. As pointed out lanolin works, also I’ve use RCBS liquid pour it in basically what ever I have on hand Several years ago I bought 12 tubes of the Lee sizing for 12 bucks so I've been using that.

I squeeze out a finger length or so into the spray bottle, add ISO and agitate. Then about three/four sprays into the baggie with brass. I use the same baggie until it gives up the ghost. Each time I re-use the baggie two squirts. Trust me you'll quickly get a feel for it...

When the bottle sits sediment material (lee lube) gathers to the bottom not to worry, agitate before using again.

Does it matter if there is residual mixture inside the cases? I have let my cases sit for 15 minutes but still see wetness inside some of the cases.

Thanks.

No , do let them dry allow the iso to evaporate
Remebere a couple of srays into the bag of brass agitate bag with brass in it for a minute or so. Dump out brass onto a paper towel etc. allow the Dr Office smell to leave

My concern is the powder getting clumped up from the lube, which is happening. I tested a few lubed cases with powder drop and the powder was getting real gunky in there. Is this normal? My thoughts are no.

Perhaps I need more Iso and less lanolin. My current mix is about 1 part liquid lanolin to 5 parts 99% Iso.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

It does sound as if there is too much lube in your mix. drop it too maybe .50 ?? it really dosn't take much again however its finding the "sweat spot" Maybe your spraying into the baggie to much? try doing a lite misting, less "drenching" with the same mix.

I use the same bottle and when the ISO gets to a certain point I refill with just ISO. as I continue to use it I judge if I need more lube by the sediment in the spray bottle.

Try two sparys agitate baggie a bit more.

Thank you for the help ST. I am going to add a little more ISO and try a mist like you said on a few pieces to see how that works.

I just tried it and it works great. I may have too much lube in the mix, but with only a mist or 2 they dried with just a slight haze on the cases. This is a great time saver.

A can of HOS runs about $6, and lasts for several years.

Here is the lanolin.

91% isopropyl alcohol works, but will need shaken.

Edit: oops, late to this thread.

does lanolin dry like the Lee lube does, or does it stay oily? A chemist works in the same building as me and his main products are hair products and soaps. He does a lot of commercial soaps for car washes and such. I will ask him. What would be wrong with using any type of car wax and deluting it? That is what Lee lube seems to be.

All I could find was 91% alcohol. Mixed it with the lanolin and so far it works fine. You do need to shake the bottle every so often.

Go to Wal Mart automotive section and look for the RED bottle of "ISO Heet"

Also pats stores such as Auto Zone, Checkers Auto etc. carry

Am I the only one who sprays the empty bag then pours the brass in and shakes? Lube only get on the outside of the case that way.

Lately i'm putting them on a baking sheet and spritzing, then about 5 mins later roll them around and spritz again. Seems to be a more uniform coating, and more control over how much total.

That Lanolin is expensive compared to the Lee lube. I bought some but using 4oz of Lanolin at just over $5, no idea what the 99% / ISO heat cost but at this rate I am better off buying the Hornady One Shot and way better off going back to the Lee lube at 1.99 and just mixing that with cheap alcohol mix for less then $3 per 16oz of spray.

I just scored some 99% alcohol from Safeway for 1.79. Never realized I was only using 70% stuff before. It worked fine so no big deal really. But this should leave my brass nicer I think.

Sounds like what I used to do and am back to doing. I did the "bag thing" for a while, but didn't like the amount of spray that got inside the cases, so now I'm back to tossing some cases into the bottom of a plastic pan, make sure they are all laying flat, spray, shake around a bit and spray again.

Alittle dab will do ya!

Also with Iso heet,a couple of beer cans some cotton. You can make a simple and effective Alcohol stove for your BUG bag etc.

OK...I'm a bit anal...I line up all my brass headstamp up on 18" x 32" boards. I usually get about 20 per row and about 30 rows (something like that..). I hit them with a shot of HOS....wait a min, then good to go.

One of the tricks I used for lubing cases was I put them in a cardboard box that coke, Beer etc. come in. When the box got too messy. Just throw away and get a new one. Plus they are free for the asking.
