Came across this little guy tonight and wondering what gives. Is is a full size .45 Auto case, but takes small pistol primers. Anybody shed some light?

First there was FEDERAL 3.1 45 AUTO, then came FEDERAL 95 45 AUTO then came FEDERAL 98 45 AUTO then FEDERAL 98second edition, Next came FEDERAL NT 45 AUTO for business and networking applications. Later FEDERAL 2000 45 AUTO was released and fixed alot of the ammunition bugs end shooters were complaining about but then the patches came and came and came and came. When FEDERAL XP 45 AUTO was released people thought that they finally had merged NT and 2000 into a single 45 AUTO but then there were so many variations of business class 45 AUTO and enterprise 45 AUTO. Those of us who became disgruntled enough finally went to FEDERAL 45 iAUTO which I personally own.

See the cute little swage mark around and about the primer pocket? Win and Speer don't swage. I reload those for my brother to lose in the woods. Trash the Fed NT brass or get a swager.

It is the devil because nobody in their right mind would make a .45 ACP case that takes a small pistol primer. Sure gets your attention when you try to press a large pistol primer into the case as you have been doing for years while loading this caliber. Just senseless attempt to produce ammo suitable for sale in whole foods. Just grateful the recycle guys will accept these cases.

I don't keep any Win NT in .45, but do keep all of the .40s I find. There aren't any issues with those since they're small primer already, right?

Maybe not. I still have a hard time not Auto Chuckin' 'em to the rattle snakes. Takes real discipline to bring any NT headstamp home to the brass bucket. Makes me feel dirty in an algore way. Afraid I'm gonna wake up in the middle of the night screaming like Howard Dean. We all got our cross to bear.
