I've been giving em a hard look on paper.

I see they've changed 2-3 times over the years.

Which to consider, which to avoid ?

I'm thinking 22-250 right now, but that might change.

Any real difference between shooting a XP100 and a contender/encore ? I know there are other differences (easy barrel/caliber changes, addictive nature of the contender platform), but from a shooting standpoint are there any differences to consider ?

I'm thinking the "R" version with the removable mag, but removable mags on rifles can be a serious PITA at times. I don't mind a blind feed or a hiinged floorplate, I just don't see where the XP100 was ever offered in that configuration. Maybe I missed it, not sure.

If ya own one now, or have in the past, how is/was it from an owning and using it perspective ?

Small bolt rifle is easier to carry and operate. XP100 is bulky and cumbersome if you want to carry it. OK for a silhouette match maybe, where you don't move much. Mine found a new owner pretty quick.

I prefer the Contender. Most are more accurate than you can hold through a light trigger squeeze. I worked loads on two different caliber Contenders off the bench with rifle scopes. Both were less than 1 MOA and more accurate than my ability.
