View Full Version : So I'm cogitating on my ammo philosophy...

I shoot a mixture of "pansy" 140-145 PF ammo and "manly" 165-200 PF ammo at local IDPA matches, depending on what mood I'm in. At state/sanctioned matches I've always shot 180 PF loads out of my G35.

I'm signed up for the Nevada state IDPA match in a few weeks, and I can't make up my mind what to shoot. Should I keep with my "shoot defensive-like ammo" past, or should I find some uber soft 130 PF load and try and win?

And what the hell happened to my post count? Did I win the lottery?

Why wouldn't you try to win? Am I missing something?

I applaud Koski's use of poly-syllabic words.

Placing a slot or two better by shooting pansy ammo (which is allowed) seems yucky, for some reason.

Sounds like you answered your own question.

You can either use the rules to your advantage or follow whatever reasoning you feel like and shoot something else.

So you gonna step up and shoot 180pf loads, hell why not go for 200pf. Its a nice round number??

Ive seen a few guys that think shooting a 140pf load degrades their manhood or something. :dita:

If they required a 165pf load thats what I would shoot. If 125pf is the rule then I would start dropping the load down to a point where I liked it.

For matches that have steel 125pf can be a little "iffy" when it comes to knocking down a target. My guns always ran better in the 145pf range. Recoil was nice, accuracy was very good, reliability was 100%

Ya can't get 'em down by shootin' 'em in the knees and feets with 125 PF stuff. Ya gotta head shoot 'em. I ain't lost any steel yet with 130 PF loads.

I have a nice 200 PF load using PP, but I wouldn't want to shoot 200 of them in a row.

Wait, yes I would.

I'd shoot the cat fart loads. I mean unless you get giggly when you shoot heavier recoiling rounds. Recoil for me just isn't fun.

But would it make you feel dirtier than shooting factory ammo? How dirty do you feel if you shoot factory 22lr?

I'd shoot the cat fart loads. I mean unless you get giggly when you shoot heavier recoiling rounds. That about sums it up for me. I really enjoy shooting the heavier recoiling loads more, I just can't shoot them quite as fast, and my accuracy can fade after a while.

What's wrong with me?

Well Steve, we don't really need to get into THAT here. Mebbe Slick will set up a psyche forum later so you can find the elusive answer.

I play the IDPA game too. I started out in 2005 shooting factory ammo (I know....MAJOR sin, but that's another story) through a G21 in SSP. That's all I shot for the first year, and all I could do was live in the SS attic. I switched over to a 17, and now am headed for Master.

I would not be able to do any of this without reloading, and getting close to minimum PF. You know it's a game. I know it's a game. So why not, without remorse, shoot what we are allowed to by rule?

I load my .45 to 170, and my 9 will be loaded to 130. I have learned to live with my shame.

My only malfunction with my G20 was during an IDPA match.....a 20 just won't run on bunnyfart loads like I was trying.
It needs a MIN of a 165PF to be reliable...but then, the OEM ammo was a PF of 240 !

Agreed. By my definition if you use a timer and keep score, it's a game..

I'll be working SC the weekend before. 23rd Anniversary is the 28th, so I'll be with Mrs. Bogey the weekend of the MD match. :wink5:

Make sure you look me up at the Cup. I'll be the folically (sp?) challenged one.

Bunny Fart. It's a game. You want to be able to shoot the full power if you need it but I don't think that is a issue for you anyway.
