well i didnt fish it fer like 3 years. went and tried it one day, wowzers.....it was like nothing changed. tons of these pissed off pound or pound and a half rock bass(lots like a bluegill/brim). them things will litterally attack a lure that is 2x their own size. oh and they taste pretty good when dipped in beer batter and fried in the deep frier.

Living on the shores of Lake Erie, between me, my uncle, and grandfather who all use the same boat have about 200 lbs of Perch/Walleye filleted up in the freezer. It doesn't get any better eatin than that. We're talkin bout having a huge fish fry to thin out last year's stalk cause the new fishing season is just starting! :yesnod: Time to go out and limit out a few times a week all over again! :cornut:

My favorite fish to catch for sport is bass but I find myself fishing for crappie more and more as I prefer to eat crappie. I rarely keep a bass.
A few months right after hunting season every year I may be able to catch a few sauger.

Damn right, I a eat a carp in a heartbeat. Filet it out, roll it in cayenne an season salt, toss it on a hot grill till da edge jus curl up a lil bit. Eat it wit some hush puppies an some good cole slaw
I love eatin drum, an mullet, an specks, an reds.
Spent a lotta time on da coast fishin da surf, off da piers an in a lil boat. Did da party boat thang, went out to da jetties in a bigger boat when da reds is runnin, love em all.
I a eat flounder like it goin outta style an crabs an shrimps an eels too.
Luv some crawdads too, when I can get em live
I a even eat a buffalo or a grennel if I get one big enough, you prolly know dat as a mud fish.
I a eat turtle (all kind) but I like da green softback da best. Big ol snapper a do real nice in a pot a gumbo too ;)
Love catfish too, specially channel cat or blue cat. My noodlin days is over, but I a still feel one out if I go to da river for a day sometime.
I a eat a gafftop too if I got one, jus ain't had dat in a long time. Hardheads too much trouble unless they real big

Filet it out, roll in some cayenne an season salt an toss it on a ultra hot grill (two full chimney in a weber be about right)
Let it sit till da edge just start ta curl up, flip it an let it go about 2 minutes.
Take it off, hit it wit some butter or a demi glace sauce an chow down.
You can serve it wit rice too if ya want to.
Womens especially love it, make em wanna follow orders real good ;)

Hell yeah I a eat a sheephead. Jus another brim. Kinda a big ol perch ;)
Call em a gaspergou where I'm from. Poke ya finger if ya ain't careful.
They jus look greasy, dat flesh bake up real nice - especially in some rice or wit some greens or roasted wit some vegetables. Fry em up too if they small enough or ya wanna cut em up. They don't make a steak too well, but they a fry up like anythang else.
You need ta quit givin dat fresh water drum away, it too good ta give out. Salt water version a lil bigger, but I ain't ever seen one over 18-20 lbs, most of em a whole lot smaller.

All this talk about fishing and good eatings reminds me of the time when I was in, oh, junior high and we made a family vacation across country in our trailer. We caught two good-sized landlocked salmon at Lake Yellowstone within a minute or two of each other. Five minutes later they were cleaned and were cooking in the trailer. Yummy! It doesn't get much fresher than that.

Man this all reminds me of my trip to O Canada when I was 12yr old. Me and 51 of my family members (cept one black guy they called Frog, who I hear might be related somehow anyways) headed to Boulter Ontario for two weeks of slaying the redeyes. Every day we would catch around 2000lb of fish and that night would have the biggest damn fish fry most of you ever seen. Bout every day somebody would bring in a big ole mean snapping turtle about 18-24" across and his ass would be breaded and deep fried just like everything else. Few nights we got special treats of deer or one of the bears that dissappeared from the local dump
Man those were good times and did a lot to build a relationship with my dad and his side of the family that I never really ever grew up knowing cuz him and my mom divorced when I was real young. Just hearing Slick talk about turtle gots my mouth watering like nothing else and makes me wanna go fry one up. Great memories, thanks for draggin them out of the back of my mind guys!

My favorite table fish is almost ready to start getting caught--YELLOWTAIL (a sub-species of jack). Those of you who have tried "ahi" in Hawai'i have eaten yellowtail. GREAT STUFF, about any way it's fixed. Grilled over real coals is best, never tried it on a gas rig. The party boats are starting to hit them a little out near Santa Catalina and San Clemente Islands, and in Mexican waters around the Coronado Islands. Things should pick up in about 4-6 weeks, and the new boat (Triumph 170CC) was purchased with yellowtail in mind. No interest in blue-water/marlin and tuna stuff--that is often a long expensive boat ride with expensive tackle into VERY nasty water. I'll stay inshore, chase YT and bonito (AKA "Laguna Tuna"), and eat very well.

About the best eating saltwater fish is cod in the Pacific Ocean. We used to go out and catch a 100 pound sack full. I used to spend a lot of time in Florida with my Dads family when we were on vacation. I would go floundering with my cousins in the gulf and that is some serious eating.

I have to agree Rusty those flounder are hard to beat for table fare. I am also crazy about snook they are hard to beat.

We do in parts of the state. Where I live, we are only 13 miles from Kansas, so we kind of get a mixture of a lot of things between mountainous and plains. Bluegill is awesome for kids to fish for since they are so damn aggressive during the hot parts of the summer. Also, they are blast when you don't have a lot to do but enjoy the outside and kill the time.
I usually give them to a friend to clean, batter, and deep fry them (he does them up awesome). The only problem is that you have catch umpteenzillion of them for a decent fish fry. On the odd time that I go catfishing, I usually catch a mess of them and use them for cutbait.

I understand that for here those fish aren't approaching records or probably anywhere close - but for the UK- they're pretty monster - that's why him two good buddies, and one of our uncles go to France each year - where the fish are much bigger on a general basis than in the UK...
Example from:
http://www.go-fish.co.uk/fishrecords.htm
Wells Catfish (not sure if that's a wells cat or not) - the UK record is 62lb and the UK record for a common carp (again, not sure what that carp is specifically) - is 67lbs
So to be able to fish AND more importantly - CATCH - fish that are within ounces almost of the UK records - it's pretty good fishing for them... I happen to think that carp isn't too ugly as fish go.. ;)

Went out on a Lake Erie charter one time with Pa.
Our charter said it was a mark of shame to come to dock with even one sheephead on board. Turned 'em all back.
My little brother went to Lake Erie with an outboard in the back of his truck, rented an aluminum rowboat, put-putted out into a bay and caught several.
Brought 'em back to shore, filleted 'em out, fried 'em up and declared them good eatin'.
An old timer of my acquaintance -- a long tall fellow in his sixties, wiry, skinny and this was his first trip out of the SE OH hill country -- went out on the charter before ours with this same captain. He hooked onto a sizable cat fish. The charter cap reached out and cut his line and said it was a trash fish, don't waste your time.
That skinny old feller was just shy of six and a half feet tall, and the charter captain wasn't.
The old feller said "Sonny, I don't know what a walleye is. I've never seen one and I've never et one, an' I don't even know if they're fit to eat. You just cut my line.
"I know what cat fish is, and I eat cat fish, and I like cat fish.
"You just throwed away my supper."
That charter captain admitted later he was honestly afraid this long tall skinny hillbilly was going to toss him overboard. The fellow never made a hostile move nor did he raise his voice but he was clearly, clearly unhappy.
