My boss shoots black powder and has a .45-90 round on his desk as a paperweight. That is one big MoFo!

I have a Quigley Sharps in 45-90, heavy gun, but still thumps with 500 grain bullets and a case load of 777:yikes:
I shoot the 45-70 a bunch more.

I couldn't part with it, as it is partially my daughters as well. She and I were "bucking the tiger" at a casino night event at a major cowboy action shooting event several years ago, and pooled our coupon"earnings" into the lottery pot for the Sharps- and we won!
I also have a Shiloh Sharps in 30-40 that I use for deer hunting. Kinda like shooting a big .22, with hardcast 200 grain bullets. I love the western era firearms as much as my more modern stuff.:cheers2:

I've got a box of 20 brass for a .50-140 x 3 1/4" Sharps, largest of the Sharps ctgs. I keep threatening the wife that I'm going to get a Sharps to match the brass !
This round wasn't really chambered by Sharps; It came about just as Sharps was going out of business.
It uses a 700 gr, bullet.
Now that is a big mofo !
uncle albert.
I'm also on the trail of the original Sharps that belonged to my grandfather. It's a 30" "Business Rifle" in .44-77 bottleneck. I keep hunting , but no luck yet. It was known to be in existance in 1962, so the game is still afoot !

Have fun loading those big capacity BP rounds. 45-90 would be as big as I would go.

Can you name the U.S. President who owned a .45-90 and handloaded it?
I read this in one of R.L. Wilson's books last night:
In Sept. 1887, Winchester shipped Theodore Roosevelt a .45-90 Deluxe Model 1886. He initially shot factory ammo in it but was unsatisfied and switched to his handloads - a hybrid 330gr. hollow point slug backed up by 85 gr. Orange Lightning Smokeless Powder.
This was his regular big game rifle from 1887-1894 and he took over 100 big game animals - from antelope to grizzly - with it.
