Got ta fondle a 19C a friend of mine bought a couple weeks ago. Haven't gotten to shoot it yet, but got me thinking about a compact glock again. I really want a 32 but am concerned about the muzzle jump from the 357 sig. If the C model cuts down on that, i'd buy one in a second. Anyone have any experience with the C's?

I had a G20c for a couple of years. Other than looking cool, the compensation didn't seem to be good for but one thing...making it louder.
The C models do look awesome though especially with a polished replacement bbl.

Yep.

Increased flash too.

Depending on the powder you're loading with you can get a little shower from time to time from unburned powder.

You can tell some difference in recoil, but not as much something simple like a drop in comp bushing on a 1911.

That's with a standard range load of mine. You can probably play around with the load or go to a different powder and maybe see some more noticeable difference.

If I had one, I'd run an aftermarket marrel in it for anything except range use, so, for carry, the comp wouldn't be a factor.

I have a 17C. I cant tell much of a difference in recoil.

I have a 21C - have not tried a 21 side-by-side so cannot compare recoil. The 21C does not feel much different vs. my 1911s. As you might expect, the heaviest pistol will have less 'felt' recoil - but they're all in the same ballpark.

dave - not that sensitive to recoil anyway

It's such a rare internet event when someone who actually knows how to use - or, in fact, competently uses - a compensated pistol barrel decides to step up and post something that's genuinely relevant.

So far, in more than 7 years in cyberspace, I can count on the fingers of one hand those pistol shooters who actually understand what a compensated pistol barrel: is, should be, or how it really performs.

I've been running Bar-Sto extended and compensated barrels on all of my EDC pistols for nearly 40 years. I've long had the ability to make a pistol, 'stand up and dance' to whatever tune I want to play. I've, also, had this discussion so many times on GT that I'm (almost) sick of talking about this subject.

(It seems like the moment we manage to get things straightened out with this topic, the next new guy comes along; and, 'voila' everybody immediately reverts back to square one all over again.)

Other than suggesting that those who are really interested should, 'google' the topic on GT's website, I'll take a moment to quickly rundown a list of performance characteristics.

1. SLIDE AND BARREL PORTING doesn't work well. Glock's standard factory ported barrel and slide setup is an abortion.

2. On the other hand an aftermarket EXTENDED AND PORTED MUZZLE works very well.

3. Depending on the particular ammunition brand, or the type of powder used, there will usually be little or no excessive flash.

4. Yes, I suppose a ported muzzle is louder; but, I really wouldn't know because I'm always wearing high quality ear muffs. What I do know is loud - terrifically loud - is 45 Super ammunition. A muzzle ported barrel has never bothered me; on the other hand a 45 Super often, 'shakes the rafters' and brings dust down on my head.

5. The faster you shoot the more benefit you’ll receive from a ported and extended muzzle. Slow fire may show you very little; but, when you start firing quickly (2 or 3 shots a second) muzzle porting really comes into its own.

I have as much as double or triple the control over my front sight while I’m firing-at-speed than I do with an ordinary stock barrel. It doesn’t surprise me how many shooters completely fail to realize this because, in my everyday experience, very few pistoleros are able to use their pistols as quickly and accurately as, say, a top IDPA/IPSC competitor often does.

6. The most common recoil reduction figures are usually published in a range of from 10 to 20 percent. On single shots and slow fire that range is way too high. 5 to 8 percent would be a lot more like it. However, when shooting a pistol at speed the recoil reduction rate goes way up. My best guess would be anywhere from 10 to 15 percent.

7. It’s true that a ported barrel will take away a certain amount of recoil momentum from the slide. Years ago when Glock first introduced their ported pistols, the factory reported that the slide/barrel porting method Glock uses reduced slide velocity by 3 to 5 percent.

As I mentioned, I only use muzzle porting on extended pistol barrels. At the same time my Colt 1911’s all had heavy 18 to 20# springs in them; and my Glock 21’s usually run 17# factory stock springs. I’ve never had any sort of FTF caused by the use of a muzzle ported barrel – Not one in all the years I’ve been doing this.
