I'm leaning on casting my own 9mm, and from what I have read I should slug my barrel to get an accurate measurement of it's size. So, how exactly do I do that. By the way, I know almost nothing about this so please talk to me like I'm five years old. If you assume I knew what you meant, I probably didn't. Just being honest.

what you want to do is get a soft lead round ball or bullet that is a little fatter than you think you'll need. so if your doing 9mm you want something that is probably around .360 in dia. then you want to lube the bullet with some bullet lube, you may be able to just lube the barrel with some wd-40, but i've never tried. then you want to take a rod that will not scratch your barrel and is nearly as fat as your barrel and tap the bullet through. you'll obviously want to remove the barrel from the gun if possible. a soft wood backing under the barrel is nice to help prevent gouges. then alls you need are some micrometers to measure the bullet after it comes out. You'll have a negative copy of your barrel.

This is a pretty good write-up and I like how he uses a shorter section to get compression of the the slug inside the barrel for maximum expansion. Of course all of this applies to pistols just on a smaller scale.
