Threw the brass I've shot through my newtome G34 in the tumbler before going to work today and it looked so purty I had to share.

Walnut media?

It is approximatly 50-50 walnut and corncob mixed together. I think letting it run for about 9 hours was the main ingredient. Most of the brass was once fired, but there was some that had been around for a while, and it all looks good.

So which of the 3 polishing compounds above did you use?

BigSlick

Just about any brass run that long in walnut will look good, kinda white lookin as it removes all the surface crap.

I see a couple with smaller brass lodged inside. Those are fairly easy to deal with (usually), just get ya needle nose pliers as the walnut makes it harder to pull out.

If you get a 9x19 stuck in a .40, stuck in a .45 ACP with the primers up, you're in trouble.

Nine hours will certainly do it. I accidentally left a batch of .223 tumbling overnight and they came out amazingly shiny.

An inertia bullet puller will separate stuck cases.

That right there is one hell of an idea SC

Wish you woulda told me that a couple years ago :animlol:

Wow, that is a great idea. Even with separating before tumbling, the inevitable goof still happens.

I, like to put just a touch in every batch. My prefrince is Nufiniish. but any old polish will do. More than once I, have had to call Susan, and ask her to go down to the shop, and turn the tumblers off.

Gorgeous!

Reminds me of my early tumbling sessions and how amazed I became when my brass came out looking like that.

GOOD-ON-Ya!

I use all three of them. Usually just add a little before tumbling and let it mix in before throwing the brass in.
This time I didn't put any polish in because I knew it was going to be in there for at least 8 hours and I was in a hurry.
Also the last 3-4 times I've used the "tumbler" I've added polish, so I'm sure there was enough already in there.

A pic of some shiney brass will get a lot of comments, that's for sure.:woot_jump:

Could be both, I haven't shot either one lately, though.

I collected all the 9mm brass I shot in the G34 the last week and put it in a bag that had some loose brass in it.

Dang homie...why not just through in some bleach and oxyclean next time?

That way you'd only have to tumble for 9mins instead of 9 hours! :mf_toff:

I picked up some nice shiney bullets yesterday to load into that purty brass, now I'm going to have to clean my dies so I can have some shiney ammo to show off.

Just to let everybody know I went to Bass Pro and paid $17.99 and $19.99 a box for Hornady XTP's 124 and 147gr.. Seemed high to me but I wanted to try something else besides the Rem and Montana Gold 124 grainers I already have. I'll let everybody know how they shoot. Patrick

More than once I, have had to call Susan, and ask her to go down to the shop, and turn the tumblers off.

Mine runs off of an XMas light timer so I don't have to worry about leaving it running all night. I've got one of the Cabelas tumblers and its cleaned about 5k brass so far. Corncob is great for polishing but the walnut is hard to beat for cleaning up dirty/tarnished brass. Got the walnut media (lizard litter) from the petstore and found a great source/free shipping for fine grit (14/20) corncob from drillspot.com Stay away from the corncob media at the pet stores (too large a grit) or you'll be clean out flash holes for a few hours :(

Cheers

Yeah that Christmas light timer will save you some serious $$$ if it prevents you from leaving the tumbler on just once.

Rollis

I will usalally leave the tumblers run for the most part of a day depending on how bad the brass is, if they are .22 case's I'm collecting they will go for a couple of day"s . When it come's to loaded ammo I only go for about an hour.

Its one of those plug-in dial-type timers that allows you to set the # of hours to run after dusk. I simply put a piece of electrical tape over the photo-sensor so it always is 'dark' and run for 1 to 8 hours. I picked up a few of them at Home Depot a few years ago to run my XMas lights and repurposed one for reloading. Looks kinda like this...

Nice timer! The only one I could find is a 24 hour light timer so if I have the tumbler set for two hours and I forget about it, it turns back on the next day for another two hours. :incazzato:

That's the kind I have. It's happened at least once that it came back on the next day. Gave me and the Mrs. a bit of a surprise.
