I am looking into getting a thermometer for lead. I have found a Infrared Thermometer with adjustable emissivity. Where True black is =1, lead is .5
What y'all think? New tech or low tech?

Check this thread from a while back that said infrared thermometers won't give an accurate reading with lead because the melted lead is so reflective.
Infared wont work on a highly reflective surface like molten lead.
700 - 750 is a good working temp, it can vary depending on the bullet and the user. (http://www.glockpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3127&highlight=infrared+thermometer)

I was wondering if maybe the adjustable emissivity made any difference. After looking closer, I think they are talking about solid lead.
Any links for a good lead thermometer?

I don't think the infared ones work that well as they ony read the cooler surface temp. ANy of the ones out there; Lee, Lyman, RCBS, etc all work fine.

Fred speaks truth as usual here DD.
I would avoid infrared in this application. I've dealt with the technology for many years while I was working. Will work fine in many instances, but not here IMO. YMMV.
