Oh come on Slick. Primers are more than 2 cents each. You crappin' powder for free?

Unless I start casting, I'm right at $0.102 per round of 9mm for 115gr FMJ. Yes, lead would be cheaper but would require an aftermarket barrel for my 9mm Glocks. Still about 50% less than the cheapest factory ammo.

Let's see:
1000
Condom bullets: $60
Powder: $10
Primers:$20
$90/1000--->$4.50/box
Those numbers are rounded up, primers are somewhere between $17-$18/1000 and powder is cheaper, but I don't feel like crunching numbers.

Well, I don't buy primers by da day, an I been usin some I picked up for $12/1000 a while back.
Powder come from PV, picked up at Tulsa time before last, no shippin, no hazmat. 4 8lb'ers @ $82 at a whack
Lead as I find it, an my time don't figure in.
All da numbers gonna change real soon though, I'm outta stuff ta make em with after I run about one more can or so. Prolly go up maybe $1.70/100
Damn, I'm jeallous of you guys shooting for that kind of chump change. 100rds of .40 cost me $13-$14. It sickens me to think that every time I go to the range & blow 100rds you guys could go & shoot 700rds for the same cost.
If I had gotten into this hobby only 2 months sooner!!

RustyFN,
Where are you getting powder and primers from?!?!? It's a good $28-$31 per 1000 for primers anywhere I've seen around here and online.
Average powder price is $20 per pound. If there are 7000 grains per pound and an average of 5 grains per rounds for 9mm which equals $17.00 per 1000 in powder. Even if you buy in bulk, it would be slightly cheaper but not less than half.
Please let us all know your tricks so we can save the money you do.
Thanks,

I've never used CCi primers, and I find that Winchester and Wolf are very similar. Keep in mind that I don't have a chrono, so I can't tell you the difference between the two.

I have just bought an HK P7 PSP and a SIG P6 - these are the German police turn ins that are currently available from a number of vendors. If I'm going to carry these guns for personal protection, the conventional wisdom is to NOT carry until you've fired at least 100 (some say 200) rounds of your "carry ammo" through a gun without failure.
OK, I carry 9mm Speer 124g Gold Dots (not the +P). From Midway, 200 rounds will cost me $188 (plus shipping, and tax because I live in MO.)
I have accumulated thousands of empty cases, so that's not a cost to me. I can (and do) buy the same Speer Gold Dot bullets as components. At current Midway prices (without shipping) I just loaded 200 rounds for $40 in bullets, $5.40 in primers (at 2.7 cents each), and $4.20 in powder (8.4g Accurate #7 duplicates factory velocity for me) for a total of right at $50, or a saving of $138.
Spending $50 to function check 2 guns (it's a nasty job, but somebody's got to do it, right?) is a lot more palatable than laying out $188. And having to watch all those empty 20-round boxes accumulate on the ground around me, reminding me that I'm burning up premium ammo.
With the savings, I can stock up on >1,000 FMJ bullets to load up as IDPA and practice rounds for those new guns. :wink5:

I buy at Graf's with a C&R license. I just bought Wolf primers last week for a group buy for $80.99 per 5,000 and I can buy 8# jugs of powder for under $100. So I'm getting primers for a little over $16 per thousand and powder for a little over $12 per pound.
