Hi,

9mm and 45acp typically come in the ball variety, why not the 40 ?

Thanks,

Alan

The original load for the 10mm was a 200gr jacketed truncated cone developing 1200fps from a 5 inch barrel. The design works well with a ramped barrel and with faster slide velocities. The 40S&W profile is a carry over from the 10mm design.

This is the original spec 10mm Automatic ammunition loaded by Norma. The 10mm Automatic was known as the 10mm Norma before being adopted by SAAMI as the 10mm Automatic.

Partially due to magazine dimensions and max COAL.

I've loaded 155 and 180 RN bullets. Both worked.

Ball shaped ammo really is for sissies. I've given it up recently, and attempted to restore my unsissifiedness.

truncated cones make cleaner holes in paper vs. RN.... :subgun:

Actually ball shaped ammo, grain for grain, maximizes case capacity. You can work-up a mo powful load than you evah could with a TC design.

TC puts most of the lead in the bullet shank.

RN puts most of the lead in the bullet nose.

Hence, greater case capacity.

Now, you might say, load them TC's longer, but that isn't gonna work cuz you will hit the lands with that sharp shoulder.

:sifone:I have fired a lot of DRG bullets. They make a nice round nose/flat point bullet in 180 grains.

Lol. I do like the iconic silhouette of police brutality in your avatar however.
