Bastards have sold me "fresh" butts that had actually been frozen.
The way to go for most meat up in my area is Fareway.

Grocery store chain that as a rule of thumb tends to have one heck of a meat dept., especially in the small towns.

Oh yeah. They have awesome beef tenderloin. My father used to get his lunch there on a semi-regular basis before he retired.
More often, I hit Graziano's for cheese, olives, and sausage when I am in the area.
Buddy of mine grew up over on Pioneer. When his father died about four years ago B&B gave a care package to the family. I believe that says a lot about them.

I get my pork from Eastman,GA. Make my own bacon and sausage too. Beef from a local butcher shop or Allen Brothers Steak in Chicago. Occasionally Sam's Club or a grocery chain for the cheaper cuts. Briskets come from Excel Corned Beef in Chicago. I buy them by the cases. Usually 2-3 cases of brisket and 1 case of corned beef. Sometimes I just make my own corned beef out of the briskets. I usually make my own pastrami out of the corned beef.
Got some Andouille and ribs from my GA pork for lunch on Friday. Along with Hellsbelle's potato salad with a jalapeno added. A garlic cole slaw too.
I butcher my own hogs too http://www.bdbbq.com/Butchering.ppt Clicking will open a Powerpoint file to download. (29 mb).

I am a meatcutter for a chain here in Ohio. We sell fresh never frozen beef/pork/chicken. We had pork shoulder (butts) on sale a week or two ago for .99 a pound. Beef prices are pretty ridiculous unless you either shop just the sales, or are a rich bastard.

I get mine from the Pig Barn, the barn (lambs) The orchard lot (beef), the woods (that which ain't been domesticated, but walks, flies or climbs trees and tastes good), or the pond (that which flies, but lands on water).
I don't buy much meat. Good to be related to farmers that run livestock.
When I do buy meat, Its usually whole vacuum packed primals from Costco or Sam's club, and if I want cuts, I head down to the north market in Columbus where there's a couple butchers that run their own animals. Carfagna's has a decent meat counter, and there's a couple Dago (that's Italian-American for the politically correct. This Pollock ain't politically correct) groceries up in Cleveland and Youngstown that I frequent when I need some sausage that's done right by the turn.

They do have the 2nd best tenderloins in town. Smitty's has the first.
They must be some good people cause theres no way a place like B&B could survive today unless they were something special. I've only been there a few times with my dad, but its always been good. I'll have to check out Graziano's sometime.

Hey degoodman, last time I went to Carfagna's the two butchers I talked to could not tell me what type of cow or the grade of beef they cut there. It was probably two years ago, so I do nto know if that has changed. We bought a few strips and t-bones there. Very little marbling, fat had an orange tinge to it, meaning it was grass fed. I prefer grain fed beef.

Them SOB's. Figures of course, because I haven't been there for a while either. The last time I was there they had a couple butchers there that could tell you everything about the meat they were cutting for you except for maybe the cow's name. Appearantly times change, and not for the better. In all honesty I can't say I'm super surprised though, that corridor from morse to 161, and from 71 out to at least cleveland, if not route 3 is a toilet. Should relabel the streets "reasons why CCW is a good idea".
Weiland's is another decent market (been there more recently than Carfagna's) and the Rife Market was also pretty good. But I do more shopping at the north market than anywhere, cause some of those cats CAN tell you the name of the cow you're eating. Of course like I said, that's for when I shop, which ain't often.

You're talking two different types of tenderloins. I'm talking about beef tenderloins at B&B (hunk o meat in paper), not the pounded pork fritters Smitty's sells.
Last time I was at Smitty's was about a year and a half ago, and their tenderloins weren't what I remembered them being- having come premade in a cardboard box. Since then, I have continued to pound out my own pork tenderloins.
Just smelling the air as you walk into Graziano's is a good thing.

I get my meat from the woods or in the lake.
Sam's is about the only choice for large cuts around here that is both decent and affordable.

You have 3 Whole Foods there in Baltimore. I hear there's this crazy thing called the internet where you can find anything: http://yp.yahoo.com/ypResults.py?stp=y&stx=7766839&city=Baltimore&state=MD&uzip=21202&msa=0720&slt=39.290482&sln=-76.61232&cs=4

Whole Foods? I demand there be chemicals in my food! I raised chickens for Allen's awhile back, and we pumped full of growth hormone. But thanks for the other link, my check some places out as long as I don't have to enter the city. I don't know how to get around in there...

Thats cool, I'm also a meat cutter here in Texas. Beef prices here are pretty high too, but we do have tbones on sale for $5.99/lb, if you call that a sale lol.

WHen any of our middle beef goes on sale, it is usually 5.99 or 6.99 per pound at the cheapest. I remember around 5 or 6 years ago we had bone in strips for 2.99 a pound. I had dreams/nightmares about cutting those damn things for a few weeks after the sale.

Heck yeah. I'm pretty new to meat cutting. I've only been doing it for about 2 years, but I've heard the stories about when they had the grand opening of the store I work in now and they ran tbones on sale for $1.99. The guys I work with said it was CRAZY. They had 2 meat cutters work all night just cutting tbones. Didnt scrape or trim them, just cut and wrap. Sold like 2 pallets a day or so.
This company did the same thing with assorted pork chops at another store, ran them for like $.79/lb
I'd hate to have to go through that lol.
You ain't near me by any chance are ya Werdna?

Ha...I just got on here to post that I stole some meat. I got a couple of those $0.99/lb pork shoulders. I've had one on the crock pot all night with some BBQ sauce. The house is smelling great.

Find a meat distributor in your area. We have a big one that all of the local restaurants buy from.
One time I ran short on ribs and made a quick trip to Sam's Wholesale. They had some really good pork and beef ribs. I never bought a Boston but there though.

If you're in Louisiana there's lots of roadkill.
You should see TASSI:supergrin:
I'm probably the lucky one:)
Not only has Australia the best Beef and Lamb in the world, but I make my bucks in the Export meat industry.
So I have a very good and reliable supplier:supergrin:

Out in the rural parts of Colorado, we are very lucky. If I kill it (deer or elk), I got a buddy who lends me his butchering equipment. Otherwise, I got a butcher up north of me who does everything else, and I have a line with one rancher, one shephard, and one hog farmer.
