View Full Version : God that Lee Scale Sucks.

I just had to say it. At first I thought the Midway Digital scale was the one that was off. Turns out I can't get the Lee to read the same thing twice. I did some comparisons between my Lee, Midway $30 Digital, and Dillon Eliminator. Getting the Lee to read the same each time was a headache. I finally have what I think is a 5gr check weight but I want to compare it to another scale in the future. Either way the Midway Digital and Dillon where the same. If I took the 10 minutes to get the Lee perfectly zero'd it was the same as well. I never realized how much I was averaging with that stupid Lee scale. Don't make my mistake people. Get a real scale (not the Midway either BTW).

I agree. I love my CTP, but their scales sucks!

I bought an RCBS 502.

Yep, got to give you that one. How much time have you spent saying wait now there's a little more line showing on that side!

I bought a broken, used Lee scale at a flea market years ago that even had parts missing. Using a soldering iron and a few pieces of duct tape, I had it working just fine in less than 3 hours. I tried comparing my powder charge for 9mm between the Lee scale that I fixed and my wife's bathroom scale. The powder drop didn't measure on the bathroom scale because it was less than 15lb. Sorry, just had to throw some humor in her. Buy a good reliable scale (or two) and be done with it.

Notice I didn't even link the "I'm about ready to send this Lee scale down range..." thread creophus started a week ago.

I know there are a lot of CRB's out there but do all shoot Taurus' and drive Yugos? You've got to spend money on something. Make one of those things a good scale. You only have to buy it once.

Personally I only own one scale that I paid less than $50 for. It's balls-on accurate and reads the same every time in all weather conditions, humidity, etc. It's built tough and will last as long as I am loading.

This man is a CRB's CRB. Someone send him a hat or T-shirt. Very nice!

Thats my new Dillon.

I didn't mention it in post #4, but I was referring to my Dillon beam scale.

I used one for years, it was accurate, but it was a real PITA to use as one needed a very light hand to adjust and it was hard to read.

I got rid of it and will likely be purchasing a digital scale when I get back to the States.

Don't do it Bill. I have one and its awful. Really hard to read. I have an RCBS now and I compare it to the Lee and found it is accurate, but really hard to read.

I have a Dillon beam scale and a Dillon digi scale........I'm not that crazy about the beam scales. Never knew exactly what I had .....now that I got my Dillon Terminator I can tell you to the 10/th of a grain....Love it and should have got it in the first place.

Whatcha gonna do with the beam scale? You keepin it for backup or would ya be willing to part with it? I got no scale, but I've been looking for a deal on a nice beam like the Dillon or RCBS.

I don't know PM me a offer.............It's practically new, barely used....or maybe we could work out a trade of some sorts...could always use components.

Apparently this is bashing.

You should "Think of the scale as a car . Best in class " .1 grain accuracy at around $20 . Price point for the start-up kit."

Good luck not trying to drive that car off a cliff.

Still use the RCBS 5-0-5 I started with back in 1973.
Never have seen a need to change.
I've made check weights in 1, 2, 5, 10 & 50 gr. using a $4000.00 lab balance from our R&D dept. @ work. It's accurate to the 4th decimal point.
I'm close enough with the old RCBS for any caliber that I load.

I got a cheapo MTM Digi Scale not long ago to replace a Lee Safety Scale. So far it has been spot on. The only bad thing about it is when you turn it off for any length of time it defaults to oz's.

Turns off automatically after 2 minutes but that doesn't bother me since when it is off for a short period of time & you turn it back on it stays on grains.

I have both the Dillon Eliminator and Terminator and enjoy both. Simple and easy to use with the plus of being very accurate += .1 May cost a few dollars more but well worth the additional funds. Nice warm fuzzy feeling knowing exactly how much power your press is dropping. Oh did I mention I have a thing for the color BLUE and use the 550b :yesnod:

Yep that's a great scale, had one with the RCBS Jr I started with, gave the press to a friend to start out with but the scale went missing some years ago.
