Laughed my ass off at the picture of the target.
I have never fired a Mini-14, but I have read that they come with an inaccurate barrel.
I have bought a 22 rimfire barrel that was roughly tapered on a lathe many years ago, and silver soldered it to a Mauser barrel stub. I used my tight neck short throat .223 reamer. I used 35 gr Vmax bullets that would stabilize with a 1 in 16" twist barrel.
That gun went to the range and shot a .9" 5 shot group at 100 yards.
What does it all mean?
My $20 project .223 will shoot sub moa and Ruger's $500 mini-14 will not?
The name Ruger means quality with the #1 single shot rifle.

It took me a minute when I first saw the target. I knew Mini-14's didn't have a stellar reputation for accuracy, but I've never owned one.
Probably won't now, either. :)

Yeah, I was looking into the Mini-14s once and decided against them due to the accuracy issues. I understand the latest models are substantially better, though. Out of curiosity, anyone have input on that? (Or was I hearing about the "Mini-14 Target Rifle" version?)

A Mini-14 can be just as accurate as a nice AR with the same overall cash outlay. All you gots to do is get you a new barrel from Accuracy Systems Inc. and you wanna really get crazy you can get you a tacticool AR looking stock with a whole bunch of Picatinny rails you won't ever use. They are based off the M1 Garand action and you are talking bad about em, commies.
On a side note, that is one of the funnier pictures I've seen, right up there with the 9mm/.40/.45/10mm comparison picture from GT.
