As many of you know, the Smith 638 and variations come with a fixed front sight, machined into the barrel, no option to drive out a pin to go with a red ramp or tritium insert. Impossible to change front sights

I got e-mail back today from XS sights saying they can definitely machine the front sight base to allow for a tritium sight to be pinned on.

Cheap too, as in less than $100 including the sight.

They're in Ft. Worth, so I'm thinking about doing the mod when I get home. I can walk in and watch em do the work

What do you guys think ?

Go tritium on a 638 or not necessary because it's an up close and personal gun ?

I've seen some of the custom installs XS has done in the past and have zero problem letting them do the work

I'd save my money and put it towards another gun etc.
BUT it would be cool. But useful ,well, thats another question..

My 638 in that pic has had a hole drilled in the front sight, and a tritium lamp installed. It is pretty small, and does not have enough room for a white outline ring, but in the right lighting... it does help out.

They do it here, http://www.tooltechgunsight.com/

If it were me I would put the money towards a set of laser grips. They work great on a snubbie and essentially extend the sight radias. $100 is reasonable though.
