Any of you guys running a B&C stock ?

I've always been a McBros or HS Precision guy, but, B&C makes a stock that will fit my purposes, and, it's cheaper than the others.

If you do have some first hand with them, how stiff are they up front ?

Do they have a full length block ?

Slick, Depending on the model most of them are pretty stiff in the front, some have a good bolck, some need a little more bedding. From what I have experienced they need a little hauling out more than maybe the others to get just the right barrel float, but fit is good with a nice snug with minimal- medium bedding. they seem to hold up as well as the others and for the price the little extra work can be worth it. you gonna use it for the 30-06 build ??????? all in all I think that you might be happy with the purchase

Yup, the 30-06 build.

I got a Hogue and it flexes up front. It floats perfectly, but you can feel it flex a little under recoil, makes me crazy, so, it's gotta go.

I emailed B&C and they claim the stocks are a drop in fit (don't they all), but to hog one out a little is no biggie, I just don't want to have to start hoggin out the bed block, because that's a PITA and hard as hell to get uniform again once you do.

I know the action will drop right in a HS with clearance for the trigger and safety, just fine, I did it. But, the gap is ginormous compared to a perfect .060 float.

It won't affect shooting, I know, but B&C says they have a stock with the swell like I want that will handle a sporter contour.

That sounds good, but, hearing it from those selling it, and it actually being so is sometimes two different things.

I even looked at Choate, and they have a new lineup with a serious bed block and from what I read folks are pretty happy with em. I've done a couple Choate folders in the past and been pretty happy with em overall, but the HS and McBros stocks are just the bomb. Neither one make a stock like I want that fits a sporter profile barrel.

I will rebarrel the action later on, but feel compelled to shoot the stock barrel to see how it does with a full workup of several loads before I just can it. It will be a hunting rifle, so the sporter barrel is fine.

The factory stock is OK, but my big hands got nowhere to go on that little grip, so I can't get the right grip on it off hand. Bench, no problem, but I ain't gonna lug a bench in the field, so I gotta do something.

from my experience I have found that they drop right in just fine...... BUT i still would add a little bedding and hull out the barrel channel just a tad to allow for expansion do to barrel heat, Im sure you know but DONT float past the recoil lug, just cause more issues than needed, specially if you run 180's or bigger do to max barrel whip "i found out the hard way" that stock barrel should be good for a great time, I just ordered a 30-06 ACK IMP reamer and will report to you once completed "couple months" but from what I have seen from 06 ACK it is a sizeable difference fo sho. the trigger drop and placment in those stock are good, but I believe the reason why they hull them out some is to allow for after market triggers and such, the trigger guard should fit nice and snug in that stock as well, what stock are you looking at ?????

if ya are needing ya barrel turned to an ACK IMP let me know down the road, we might be able to work something out..... keep me posted on this, I know that I have been MIA for a while but work is super busy.

Here's the stocks I'm looking at :

The HS Sporter profile without a swell http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp;jsessionid=ZZNRU45IT0WSVLAQBBJCCONMCBYFGI WE?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=perf&id=0005395210482a&navCount=4&podId=0005395&parentId=&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&catalogCode=IA&rid=&parentType=&indexId=cat20811&hasJS=true&_requestid=397875

The Bell and Carlson Medalist : http://www.bellandcarlson.com/Page8.htm

The Choate version of the HS PSV: http://www.combatstocks.com/Choate_Tactical_Stock_for_Remingtom_Long_Action_BD L_only.cfm

Manners Ultralight : http://mannersstocks.com/UltralightHunter.html

None are bad, none are perfect for what I want.

The B&C is middle of the road on price, but I'm liking the Choate too.

If I'm gonna go HS, the Sporter version might work OK, I just haven't had my hands on one, as all my others have heavier barrels.

The Manners looks *really* good, but for the bucks I don't see anything that thrills me for the bucks over the Choate, the B&C or the HS Sporter.

:dunno:

As far as the AI, I've read up on that a bit, and I like it. I'm still trying to get a range gun and basic shooter without having a total piece of crap or dropping any bucks that I shouldn't.

So far, I'm in real cheap, and like the results, but the crap SPS stock has to go. Older versions, from 2-3 years back were pretty good. The latest version is hollow and flimsy crappy light and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if one good round doesn't crack it all to hell. Plus, it feels cheap like chinese plastic reject cheap and that ain't gonna do.

But, I knew going in I was gonna swap triggers and stocks, so, no harm no foul, except HS doesn't make the one I want in the profile I got to work with for now
