Guys,
I have been really surprised that no one has mentioned how fascinating and entertaining the blog Behind Cohutt's Fence (http://cohutt.wordpress.com/) is. I've been reading and following Cohutt's thoughts and experiences for the past few months from the link in his signature. Cohutt has a great writing style and does quite a good job with his camera.
You really should take the time to give this a read.

Nah, just heavily implied you was some crazy coot from the swamps.
I got poblano advice from our point blank hog assassin too iirc.
There is more to life than lead sometimes. Not often, but sometimes.
Mrs C suggested I start the blog last year, so I got off my arse and started it all around 9 months later.

That tomato freaked me out- it stayed like that for over a week without rotting off the vine like it should have.
I wasn't going to mess with it, what if it was contagious or something?
I ended up pulling the whole plant; it never got production going very well. When i did I poked the thing with a knife and it was soft. It was like a membrane over the seed clusters or something.

You going to do any of the winter greens route Cohutt?
Mustard, collards, turnips, or rutabaga's?
Getting about that time of year down here.

mrs c said she didn't want any greens like those.
Of course, she started out saying she didn't want anything but a few good tomatoes a couple years ago.
HA
now it is "be sure to plant lots of _______". The blank can be filled with anything that she has tasted fresh from the garden one time.
I have a bunch of salad greens trying to germinate through the frickin heat and am planning on putting a PVC hoop frame up to extend the season as far as as I can for these.
I did sneak in some turnip greens last Friday (they had germinated by Sunday night ... dayam) and we'll see if we have us a convert in a few weeks.

On another note there is a use for maggots.
:dog:I think you should raise them to help with healing. :animlol::animlol:
From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maggot_therapy);
Maggot therapy (also known as maggot debridement therapy (MDT), larval therapy, larva therapy, larvae therapy, biodebridement or biosurgery) is a type of biotherapy involving the intentional introduction of live, disinfected maggots (fly larvae) into the non-healing skin and soft tissue wound(s) of a human or animal for the purposes of selectively cleaning out only the necrotic tissue within a wound (debridement), disinfection, and promotion of wound healing.

Its gross as hell to see, but it is still used Since the maggots only eat decaying material they leave the wound very clean

I have to say those were particularly tasty.... the cold weather must have stressed these last jalapenos - they were hotter than the summertime ones from the same plant.
Basically fresh grated sharp cheddar whipped into cream cheese, stuffed into the jalapeno boats and covered with a little bacon. Roasted @ 425 (convection) for a few minutes until I couldn't stand it anymore. Yum.
The bell peppers are pretty dang good as well.
Coat in oil (not olive oil though it will burn/smoke), grill over open flame until the skin is blackened, then seal in a tupperware until cool enough to handle. the charred skin peels right off but leaves a great roasted flavor in the pepper body.
de-vine goodness

I've done something similar in the smoker. A leetle crab meat in the cream cheese, bacon wrap and the bit of smoke makes for a synergy of flavors. The folks over at the BBQ Brethren forum call 'em ABT's (Atomic Buffalo Turds).
Jalapeno Poppers sounds a little more appetizing. :cheezy:

If you grill your bacon over the coals until about ½ way done before ya snip it into pieces for the poppers, it'll bring out a whole different dimension to em.
You gotta be fast, and keep the bacon moving, else it'll burn, or turn into the biggest fire you're likely to see on any given Sunday.
Then, take a little piece of a fatty and put in your peppers and pack it in with the cheese, top it with the half cooked bacon and smoke em until the cheese melts.
Cheesy pork fat and peppers rules ;)

3 beds of garlic and shallots are in and didn't have many duds in the whole deal. The two unplanted spots were where the last two brandywine tomato plants were until a couple weeks ago; they've been planted now too.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m284/cohutt/Garden%202010%20smaller/Garden2010830.jpg
I have a couple of beds that I'll keep planted in lettuce and spinach all winter; in N GA just a little cover will take care of most normal winters.
