What is the best non-electric scale for the money? I have a lee scale (not too great) and a 502 scale that after getting the pan, still will not calibrate at all! So, I want a good, reliable scale that will work well. What do you suggest?

While it may not be the best, my Hornady "M" triple poise beam scale, works very well for me.

Dillon Eliminator. Cheaper then most beam scales, Dillon quality, good pan (I can easily fill 9mm with no funnel), settles fast, nice weight to it for the money and lifetime guaranty. It's a home run. Can't believe anyone else even sells a $50 Beam Scale with that as the competition.

My 502 works great, and calibrates nicely.

Freakshow had a RCBS scale for sale a while back - one of the Ohaus-designed ones that is the best, IMO. Ask him if he's still got it. I've used the older version of it for 30+ years.

Off topic but I worked for the grandson that started the Ohaus scale company up in Alaska. If you ever get the itch for fishing in Alaska that is the place to go.

Somebody gave me a new RCBS 502 in 1984. The fine adjustment on it kept hanging at an angle and I'd have to tap it to get it to hang free and straight down. A friend had an RCBS 505 that worked great and I bought a 505 shortly after getting the 502. I still use that same 505. There isn't much difference between the 502 and 505 and they both seem just as accurate. A lot of people like the RCBS 10-10 but I haven't felt the need to change from the 505.

Dillon is a Three Poise version of that same scale also a Ohaus Rebadge. Does RCBS have a "Lifetime No BS Warranty"? Plus the Dillon is cheaper. If you look at the Dillon and that RCBS they are the same scale with the exception of the 2 vs 3 poise thing.

Another vote for the Dillon.

Unless I'm mistaken, Dillon doesn't make that scale. It looks identical to the Lyman 500 i just got rid of, except the plastic is blue instead of orange. Same price, even.
I do prefer the 3-poise version that's on a 5-0-5, though.

+ 1 for the Dillon Eliminator. I use it with good success and as stated by another is quick, easy, and accurate. :wink5:

Like I said before it's made by the same people who make the RCBS.
It's nothing like the Lyman

It looks the most like the RCBS 505.
Compare the Pivot, Poises, pointer, zeroing base, pan, beam of the Dillon and RCBS 505. Identical.
Edit: Does the RCBS have a lifetime warranty?
No!

I would have sworn i'd seen some other blue dillon scale that looked like the Lyman... well, perhaps not. I will mark myself wrong on this one. :)

Hi,
The best for the money for me is the Redding No. 2. They are around $65 on midwayusa, possibly less on sale sometimes. I scored one today for $30 used. Tested it out against my RCBS 750 and it is dead on so now I have a backup scale. I tried the 505 and was disappointed in it.
Good luck,
Alan

Although it is not exactly cheap I have nothing but praise for the RCBS/Ohaus 10-10.

I sold my RCBS 1010 scale on castboolits last week.
I'm getting a Dillon beam scale as a backup to my cheap digital scale. The Dillon scales are made by Ohaus.
