yesterday i ordered the cheapest press i could find, lee C press for 21 dollars. i'd been looking for a used press for a while to leave set up with a collet puller and hadn't had any luck getting one. finially ordered one yesterday. i wonder if the 650 will be insulted sharing bench space with a lee?

650 gonna get its feelers hurt, sulk, whine and be a general first class pain in the butt you put that red whatever on the same bench. Best put it in another room, some things just can't get along.

If the 650 gets it's feelings hurt, it's because the C press dressed the place up.

The thing is, you've identified a very key difference between the single-stage and progressive presses. While I'm sure it would be possible to set up a 650 to pull bullets, it's certainly not the best way.

Who cares what the 650 thinks? Paint 'em both purple and be done with it! :)

Ed, you cant seriously still be thinking about disassembling all that GAP ammo you have, are you?

Why dont you just sell it and buy some more bullets or whatever you are trying to keep?

not just to take apart the GAP ammo but to take apart mistakes to save the brass and bullets.

Throw a towel over the one not in use so the Lee doesn't feel inferior, and the Dillon doesn't feel like your a to easy buying that cheap thing.

Heysoos, Jawja. It's a Lee C press mounted horizontal and left in the white. What an app.

I keep mine vertical and use it for load development priming.

Don't wait until you are an old fart like me to spring for the Forster Co-ax press.

And they are red.

There's nothing wrong with Lee if that's what you'll settle for / or are happy with. It's like golfing to me. It don't much matter what clubs you're using. You're there to enjoy yourself.

Red or blue, it's all the ... BUY A DILLON YOU HERETIC!

The song: The rich man drives a Cadillac,
The poor man drives a Ford.

And as my mother used to say:
they both get there at the same time, same place

But my way of looking at it is:
Lee = Ford = $50
RCBS= Cadillac = $100
Co-Ax = Rolls = $200

My apologies to your kids. I thought "BUY A DILLON YOU HERETIC!" was both funny AND ironic because I've had a LoadMaster for years, put out a BUNCH of ammo on it and had convinced myself that the Blue Koolaid was for the uppity, elitist types in the reloading world - I just didn't need it. I'm pretty sure I stopped just short of "smug" in my self-assessment, but others might beg to differ.

Anyway, the irony is that my brother practically forced me to run about 30 rounds through his 550 the other day and I can't stop thinking about it. After that experience, I set my LoadMaster up to run some .32 H&R Mags and while I loaded a bunch of ammo and it all came out okay, it was too late. I had been well and truly spoiled.

So now I'm working on a trade for a 550. I'm hoping to get it sometime in the next week.

Jlarrson, the trouble with my 550 - the reason I hardly ever use it is because when I get components, by the end of the night I'm out and the press just sits there. I figure I just need to make up a hell of alot of bullets and work through my powders.

There's a reason GlockPost forum accent color is blue.

I'm working on a Oehler model 43 personal ballistic lab so I can work up my own loads. When my lead train starts rolling I'm gonna be all over Ebay at $1 per pound!

Don't get me started on the inaccuracy and irrelevance of strain gauge measurements.
Ken Oehler makes money off handloader's fear and ignorance.

If the brass is the weakest link in a load work up, read the brass.

What does it all mean?
1) In strong revolvers, the brass will stick, that is the limit, back off from there.
2) In strong rifles with rimless cases, the extractor grove will expand, for telling short brass life, or the primer will pierce, or the bolt will stick, back off from there.
3) In strong rifles with rimmed cases the primer will pierce, or the bolt will stick, back off from there.
4) In strong pistols, the brass will guppie belly or the primer will fall out or the primer will pierce, back off from there.
5) In 6mmBR rifles, to get atomic pressure, the firing pin hole may need to be bushed, as the brass is designed to go higher in pressure than the 1889 Mauser case head.

In 1956 Vernon Speer wrote that to work up a load, look for changes in the brass and then back off on the powder charge 6%.

We have been diverging from common sense since then.

HE'S OUTTA' CONTROL!!! EVERYBODY RUN!!! HE'S GONNA' BLOW!!!!!:ow:

Just curious - Do you have an automatic primer tube filler or do you have to do that manually? I've been olive-drab with envy ever since Steve posted the pic of his 2 Vibraprimes and then cruelly pretended to offer them up for sale.

I think I'm gonna' short-sheet his parking space while he's gone to Nevada or wherever. :)
