I'm thinking about getting a Sig Mosquito. What do you guys think of them?

I fondled one a few months back and was not impressed to be honest. Did not feel very solid to me. In it's defense, I was comparing it's feel to my 226 which is rock solid. And keep in mind, these thoughts were only from handling it in a shop, did not get to shoot it.

If you get a chance, I'd rent one. And if you do, report back.

I have pretty much decided on a Ruger MII or MIII for my next purchase, but haven't rules others totally out.

Good friend of mine had one. Long story short, after three trips back to SIG for various problems, they bought it back from him.

Unless you're looking for a suppressor host, I'd pass (and even then I'd probably go with a different platform).

From what I've read so far, the problems have been worked out now. They will work with cheap, bulk ammo too. The gun is for my mom, who wants to shoot with my dad and me. She can't handle a lot of recoil (although she'll shoot my Garand all day long) and this is the gun that she liked. She didn't like the Buckmark and didn't like the look of the Ruger. How long ago did that happen with your friend P99?

There's no place to rent guns here, unless Yammer can enlighten me. My brother in law was thinking of opening one and I'm all for it. But I don't think its going to happen.

Two years now. SIG did take care of him, to their credit. Say what you want about SIG, their customer service is top notch.

Personally, I'd see what you can find on the used market.

Guy I know in IN has a High Standard Sport King for sale, I'm so tempted to buy it. If I were setting out to buy a .22, I'd probably hunt down a High Standard or a Colt Woodsman (bring your wallet).

Have you tried her on a different platform? My .45 loads run about 650 fps with a 230 gr RNL, I've taught several chics to shoot off of my SIGs in .45. They can't handle my Glock 17 with 9mm plinkers, but bring on the .45.

There isn't a place to rent guns around here anymore Steve. Sadly, I don't know anyone who owns one either.

Maybe killarbb will chime in. He doesn't have one, but has a pretty good idea of who has what around this area.

Steve, you want to meet up with some more of the local gun culture?

There are several of us, including a couple of vendors, are getting together the evening of the 12th after the 4h gun show. If you are interested bring your hip boots, because everyone is pretty full of **** in a non-axxhole, non-cocky, non-oldtimer-I-know-it-all way.

I've been thinking of picking up a skeeter, but as 99 said there have been problems. I thought it would be a cheap trainer.

The link will take you to the pistol section where they have discussed them on several threads.

I love my 220R

Edit: there is a differant feel between a Ruger MK series and the 22/45
grip angle.

I have one, just got it not too long ago. Sucks bad. The only good I say about it is that is looks cool. Maybe I need to give it a chance, but I dont have the time to go tuning on a 22 that is picky on what ammo it eats. I bought a Mark 3 and threw the Sig in the drawer. The better half wanted it to practice with so she could keep fresh on her Sig 9mm. More trouble than it is worth. I am going to put it up on the board soon. I also have a Browning 22. Not sure what the model is, Dad traded me for it. You know how that goes, I didnt even look at it, just went with the deal. It is SS and looks like the Mark3. It shoots great, but I like the Ruger. Just my 2 cents

How SIG has been going in recent years: :getrid:
The 'Skeeter proves to exemplify this point.

I settled on a Buckmark (got it on sale) and I am glad I did. Excellent pistol. Crisp trigger and a nice grip. Just something to think about :yesnod:

My only complaint with Browning is they've gone to the one year warranty.

I have an early-series Mosquito, and it took about 1500 rounds (all Mini-Mags) to get the thing broken in and running well. This seems to be a common thread--they take a LOT of shooting before they settle in.

I got pretty exasperated by the end of Box #4 of the Filet Mignon 22 Food, and the thing still wasn't running real well. One of the rangemasters from the Department is tight with the SIG factory, and he made a call for me. The word was........keep shooting the thing, and spray every second or third magazine-load with WD-40......right on the cartridges through the witness window.

OK. It worked, but what a farking mess. I just took the pistol with me every week to the range and ran 100 rounds through it each time. Now it functions. As a sub-caliber trainer, its double-action trigger stroke is so stiff that it defeats the purpose of having a trainer.

That is why I'm so interested in the P220 .22 conversion. I get to practice cheaply with my favorite gun, and it looks like it was made like that factory, cuz it was made by the factory. For $300 I might just make that my birthday present.
