Does anyone besides me get a thrill from making tiny little groups a relatively long ways away? I dearly love .22 benchrest matches, mostly USBR and Wyoming Schutzen (sp), but once a month, I take my 8mmx50 French Lebel down to the military rifle cast boolet bench match to try to show those new-fangled 1903's and such how it's done.

There are a good number of folks that do that at the range I go to locally. It seems to be the older crowd there that is drawn to it. They spend more time loading/unloading and tweaking their equipment than they do looking through the scope, but they sure get impressive results.

I have definitely noticed the older shooters tend to be more into it. I am 34, and find myself normally 15-40 years younger than the others that participate. Most days I have my tinkering done as far as equipment goes, but that darned wind BLOWS!
We try to shoot out a .10" circle with a .22 bullet from 50 measly yards. Enough to drive a man drink, almost.

I do some semi benchrest shooting .
Using a Blaser 93 LS in 222Rem, shooting from 100mtr.
Only difference is I do not use sand bags but Bi-podes in the front, integral mono-pode at the rear and holding the rifle in a more 'sniping' hold then a real 'benchrest' hold.
My results are OK , usualy getting 3 or 4 out of 5 holes touching each other.

I do a bit with the .308,.300mag and the .50 BMG.
One day me and a friend were shooting at a 9 inch diameter steel gong at 600 yards with the .300 Mag. Then we commenced to using the .50 on it.
Right about then, an armadillo walked right underneath that plate, I mean he he walked right in between the saw horse that the plate was attached to with chains.
He looked at me and I looked at him and said what the heck. He got on the spotting scope and I took the shot.
I had no idea that an armadillo had 5 gallons of blood in them, but this one painted not only the sawhorse and the target but the whol countryside around it. It was spectacular. While I didnt actually see the hit due to the recoil, my friend was laughing hysterically and swore up and down that it popped like a balloon.
If it happens again, he gets the next shot. I wanna see that...
BTW..
thats some good shooting there Charly...:yesnod:

HotGuns, that kinda sounds like Tannerite, it's really more fun to watch it shot than the be the guy shooting it. By the time you get off the scope the boom is already over and something is in shreds.

this is with reloaded amo
S&B brass (no good but that's what I had)
Sierra 52 grs HPBT
VV N135 22 grs
CCI B-4 benchrest S Rfl primer
If shooting fty amo I will doubble to triple the groupe size.
If shooting reloaded amo but starting to measure the EXACT seating for the specific chamber of my rifle and working the load up as I should (but ain't doing...) I probably can have the 5 shots touching each other with only an occassional lost shot.

... and I found out yesterday at the IWA shot show in Germany that I made a mistake when choosing the N135 for the 222rem benchrest instead of the N133.
I had both in my closet but took the wrong one.
As far as I learned , the N133 should be even more accurate.
