I changed my mind and am canceling the lead 230gr TC load and replacing it with the 185gr Nosler JHP instead.
I need some loads that work well. I have Longshot, WSF, and HS6. It will be a while before I get anything else. Thanks.

9.3 gr HS-6 works really well with a std primer.
Used it as a carry load for a long, long time.
A lil bit sooty, but not bad at all.
As always, reduce an work up slowly. As you know, HS-6 a get hinky on ya sometimes

Thanks, 'Slick. My carry load is 9.5gr HS6 with a 200gr XTP. I run the TCs with 7gr; no leading, no smoke.
Yup. I run HS6 exclusively in the 45 Auto. Ran a few kegs of it in the 10mm. Not the best but nothing to sneeze at.
Was chrono mapping my Kimber with HS6 and 135gr Noslers. No sign at max, so I pushed it .1gr at a time. A few levels up, the case ejected one way and the primer ejected the other way. I had a pile of brass on my right and a pile of primers on my left.

I've used 10.0 grains of HS-6 with 185 grains JHP's in 45 ACP without any problems or pressure signs. Some manuals call this a +P load and some consider it a standard pressure load. It doesn't seem as hot as most factory +P ammo.

I load 185grXTP o/ 7.8gr of WSF for about 950fps. Unique is another good choice for high end 185gr loads.

Corbon is claiming over 1200 fps with a 185grainer. Anyone suspect?

Are you loading for accuracy, Freak?? If so, 4.1 grains VV N-310 @ 1.20 and "about" .471 crimp...(Winchester Brass preferred). This load should tell you how good the gun is...
Next choice (and a close 2nd) with the 185 Nosler HP would be 4.7 grains WST, same OAL & crimp.
EDIT: Reading furthur down, I see you may not be looking for tack drivers so the above may not be relevant since they're both on the mild side.

Accurate ammo sells. I'd be more interested in warm loads to go along with the Pucker Factor brand.

That N-310/Nosler combination is the USMC Marksmanship Team's Load. They switched from Gold Medal Match when Federal stopped testing each lot for accuracy. The information I've read about it is that the load's so good, if the gun don't shoot it the gun is rebuilt. I don't have anything capable of really wringing it out to potential but in my G21, I've not seen anything beat it benched at 25 yards. On the down side, its pretty soft, it may fail to feed occasionally with a stock recoil spring...easily cured by dropping to a 15 or even 13 LB spring. Its a hell of a hoot to shoot, though...

Actually, it is possible to safely break 1200 fps with a Nosler 185 gr JHP in 45ACP. Try Green Dot powder.
In the winter we were getting 1250 fps at 19,900 psi. In the summer when ammo was at a higher temperature we had to drop it back to 1200 fps to stay within safe pressure range. :sifone:

Clark, you have a strain gauge set up? Wow! You have a 45 acp Encore? Can't think of any other 45 rifle.

I think Clark built a 45 ACP rifle from an old Mauser.

I had a Marlin Camp carbine in 45acp, recoil spring was terribly weak, I couldnt imagine running anything factory much less "warm"
Even with a 750fps 185 load the brass was going 20 feet

Way back I got 2000 .45 185gr Zero JHP from Angus , they are sweet with 4.0 grains of Clays . I haven't loaded them with N310 yet . I liked to Star 185gr LSWC HP with N310 till I ran out--- a sad day .

I liked to Star 185gr LSWC HP with N310 till I ran out--- a sad day .
100% there. I stopped casting when I found the Star, I shot bunches over 3.9 VV310.
When Star folded up I started meltin lead again.
Love that Zero 185jhp as well:ready:
