Last weekend I upped the btus on my turkey fryer by taking a drill bit to the little brass piece that feeds into the burner.
Not sure if it was a good idea, but it worked like a champ.
Is it safe?

Intake hole was bigger than the output hole, so I didn't mess with it. Before I got the notion to do some drilling the flame was pretty weak.
Not sure how big the hole I drilled was. I just chose a small bit that was laying in the funk at the bottom of the drill bit tray in the tool chest.
I have control over the gas flow through the regulator still, but can now get one heck of a flame licking the underside of my dutch oven. The intake hole and the output hole are now about the same size.
ETA:
My initial thought as I lit it up was to ask someone to "hold my beer and watch this."

I've said this before, and I'll say it again, in reference to modifying designs. This is not directed soley at Yammer.
Can you get away with modifying an existing design? Probably, all designs incorporate a factor of safety. Does that make it the smart thing to do? Not always.
When in doubt, run the calculations and do the research. No one was ever killed because of an over design.
Another thing I've learned, intuition is seldom correct.

Nothing wrong with modifying or thinking outside the box but be damn sure you have the research and calculations.
My above was aimed more at the, "hold my beer while I do something stupid youtube commandos."
I don't want to live for ever, I would have to see more democRATS elected than I want too.

aw hell gents, you should google some of the homemade log lighters out there that are made by the barbequers. Opening up the jet a little on my burner is a far cry from some of the things they've done.
Still have all my fingers and all of the hair on my body. If I end up flaming and flopping I will have my wife post on here that it is a bad idea.

I don't imagine he opened it up more than a couple thousandths..no need to act like he completely took all of the metal out. I trust that he wouldn't do anything that stupid, he has been around long enough to know better...he doesn't want to get outta the honey do list that bad,

First fish cooker I ever made I used black pipe for da burner assy. For da jets in da burners, I used two 1/4"NPT Alemite grease fittings. Hit da bottom of them zirk fittings on a grinder, da spring will be released and da lil ol ball will fall right out. Nice orfice. :yesnod:
Torch dat mutha up, it looked like a da'gum F-18 in full afterburners. Put a meanassed scald on many a pound a fish wit dat rig. Honest.

A regulator is how far you got the twig crammed up the propane hose back behind the burner. I got my "regulator" set at half way to the second knuckle of my point'n finger deep.
