What are the advantages (and disadvantages, if there are any) of having a Curio & Relics FFL? And what is the process (specifically, how many hoops does one have to jump through and how much does it cost) to get one?

Fill out the simple application. Wait three months. $30 for 3 years. Discounts at Graf's, Midway, Brownells. Old guns shipped direct to you. Just keep a logbook.

I just put in for mine. As soon as I started looking around at old surplus stuff, I started wanting to throw all my money away.

I don't think you can sell them to another private citizen.

Best FAQ I know of.
I wouldn't take this as gospel .
You can sell to an individual that is not prohibited to
own a firearm . You can't make a business out of it .
You need to get their Driver lisense no. and name and address .
The discounts at Midway , Grafs , etc. make it worth it .
And you can get some cool stuff shipped to your house .

You can dispose of a firearm to further or better your collection but you cannot make a business out of it. It is a license to collect, not a license to deal.

Where would I get the simple application? Is it the same one for every state since it is Federal?
Thanks,

Yes, it's a federal application from the ATF.
http://www.atf.gov/forms/5300instructions.htm#5310
Click on Distribution Center.
Fill out your info.
Add the Form 7 Application for an FFL by clicking the button on the left by :
F 7CR (5310.16) - Application for License (Collector of Curios and Relics) Under 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44, Firearms
Then submit it. It will come in the mail. Follow the instructions. Should take 2-3 months.

There is a forum at www.cruffler.com. It's for C&R guys. I was over there when I had my C&R.

I applied for mine on Feb. 19.(thats when I sent my paperwork) and I still have not heard anything back from the ATF, but I have not given up yet! From what I understand, it takes about 3 months to get the license.
