I snagged one of these the other day at gunshow. Cheap they ain't, but I really like the feel better than the LC9. That's the good news. The bad news is I had 50% misfires, only later did it dawn on me they were not misfires but rather that the hammer was not dropping all the way on about half the shots. I'm thinking it has something to do with the hammer engagement. Anyway, called SIG & they e-mailed me a UPS & tag I sent the gun back to them today. Stuff happens & let's give them the chance to make it right.

What rounds that did go off were extremely accurate. It was child's play to hit small steel plates at 15 yds. out of the 2.9" barrel. Recoil was a little snappy but I really like this gun better than the LC9. Especially since I found out what it takes to remove the FP on the LC9 to clean the channel. The LC9 is a VERY complicated gun. The SIG p290 is not and it is easy to clean the FP channel. Also, the SIG p290 comes w/ night sights.

I hope SIG makes it right as I want to make this a backup and/or "go to the store" gun.

I know nothing about this new breed of Sigs, hope all works out for you.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering how this Sig would compare to the Ruger. Makes me happy to know they got most of the basics right. I just hope they get it running right for you. I handled the LC9 and didn't see a reason to ditch any of my other carry options to carry one.

Now all that is needed is for you to buy a Kimber Solo and tell us how it compares to the other two!

I handled a Kimber Solo but it was a demo. It's a clever little gun but not for me. I despise Kimber. I have read rumors that Kimber farms it out, i.e., they don't make it themselves. However, that may very well be Internet BS.

After talking to a few SIG wizards I know I think I may well know what the problem is with mine. The safety plunger was "clocking" and had lots of metal flash on it. I'm pretty sure that was the problem. However, SIG will never tell me.

There is one more new mini 9mm that has yet to hit the gunstores (waiting on the mags) and that is the Diamondback 9mm which if it works will sell like hot cakes.

Unfortunately for that Diamondback, I am kinda particular about the looks of guns and that thing is just plain ugly! It looks like something Kel-Tec would make. I do like their .380 though.

Pretty guns are what you show your friends and ugly guns are what you show your enemies. :whistling1: :harhar:

Funny! However, there is a distinct difference between wanting a pretty gun and not wanting a severely ugly gun. See: Glock! Certainly not pretty but nor is it IMO hideously ugly. As well as practicality and reliability, I like to be able to admire workmanship or at least not be turned off by the seeming lack of it, especially considering I spend far more time looking at my guns than I do shooting them.:dunno: :prrr:

Got my SIG p290 back from SIG today and to the range I went. It was flawless for me and I decided to put some defense loads on paper. My best group was the Corbon 95 gr. DPX of which I put 6 into 1.5" at 15 yds. Not shabby for a 2.9" barrel. This will be my CCW load as it is specifically made for short barrel 9mm's and has the same penetration & expansion as does their famous 115 gr. DPX in longer barrels.

Managed to get a free 2nd mag. ($49.95 value) out of SIG for my troubles. All in all I love this little puppy and a buddy who shot it as well was incredulous at how accurate it was. The repair took 3 weeks and a couple days door to door but I feel now as if SIG has vindicated themselves and they picked up all the shipping to boot.

Update: the front factory night sight is now dead. Oh well, calling SIG tomorrow.

Replacement night sight lasted approx. 150 rds. & is TOAST. I don't know if Meprolight QC is in the crapper or I'm getting old stock. I think the former.

I would call sig and get them to make it right.
