To start, yes, I know Ar15.com has everything I would ever want to know. But, it almost has too much. I really wanna know the basic parts that I need to look for possibly build my own? What parts require a FFL? Any info would be appreciated, so thanks for putting up with my laziness.

Only the stripped lower is FFL controlled. They are about $100, 90 if youre lucky. The easiest way to build your own, kinda, is to do what I just did. I just bought a stripped lower and order a kit. It comes with a complete upper that has all the hard work done for you and the stuff the requires the real skill and tools to assemble. All you have to do is put together the kit, which includes everything but the stripped low. It saves you around $100 to $200 and you get what you want. I ordered from Del-Ton.com.

And of course whatever stocks, grips, rails, optics and other pimpin accessories you want to gunk it up with. What Steve said is true about the upper: a) it's your first - so get to know how the parts go together in stages b) after the barrel goes on the upper, it must be properly headspaced (which for most means trip to gunsmith & $ anyway). But I would just by a complete upper and add the rest, not do a kit - but that's because I don't like most of the kits.

Bought my lower, a DPMS, for 165. While it sounds steep, it's what I would have had to pay for shipping, transfers, and the MD State Police fee anyway. Now on to the rest.

The price of lower receivers has gone up a bit lately.
