Anybody who is a hardcore Sig guy will appreciate this.

A buddy called me last week with a lead on a Sig P220 .38 Super with the scarce American mag release. Has the original box, test target, etc. It was bought new in 1995 and has never been fired. And the best part was the price. I should have it tomorrow.

I came across one of those a while back but I had no interest in 38 super.

Here it is. About sixteen years old and unfired. Don't know if I want to shoot it or leave it unmolested.

VERY SWEET!

I do not know if I would shoot it either, but on the other hand I hate safe queens.

If there is a test target, it isn't unfired. Shoot the thing!

Very nice looking gun there! I have always liked the looks of a nice Sig.

I have had some things that should of been safe queens. I shot the snot out of them and loved every minute. In 2 of the cases I sold them and got my money back out of them. Shooting is not a collector hobby for me. It is a shooting hobby.

If it were me AND if I bought it for a song, I would sell it on the Internet say like on the SIG Forum as there are collectors there that are crazy for this stuff. I would then take the money and buy a used p228 and the profit would go for sights, refurb, etc. + ammo. Although the .38 Super is a helluva ctg. its greatest use nowadays is in the IPSC "ray gun" shoots.

I see the wisdom in this post

It won't hurt to have a safe queen. Put it away and if nothing else you will have a small insurance policy.

What I should do is sell it for a profit and sink the money into the Charger Pit. What I did was take it out and shoot it. It is crazy accurate just like my other .38 Supers. I'm going to have to hang onto this one and shoot it. A lot. These don't pop up everyday, so I figure I can always make a little profit as long as I don't abuse it.

Sounds like fun. An accurate pistol is a joy.

Shoot it, wipe it down, put it back in the pistol rug, and it should look purty for a long, long, time :).

I hate safe queens, so I shot it.

Just like every .38 Super I've shot this one is stupid accurate. I rang a 12"x12" steel plate at 70 yards with the first three shots. The front sight covers the target at that distance, but I've wasted so many bullets on this particular target I kind of have it down - sometimes.

The Colt 1911 will be my high mileage .38 Super gun, but this one will get a little use now and then.

Interesting, let me know some of your 38 super loads, I just had Dan send me a Taurus 1911 in 38 super and am jonesing to get it to the range, but Alast I need dies and such, guessing could by some factory ammo but who would want to do that

I started with 125 gr. FMJs from Precision Delta with 5.8 gr. Unique at an OAL of 1.28". The brass was Winchester I found at Sportsman's Warehouse. I ran this combination through an older Sig 220 .38 Super (euro mag release version) and the accuracy was fantastic. That old Sig became the best shooting production gun I've ever owned. But Unique didn't meter worth a flip and the wider than usual variation of charges on the 550 got on my nerves. The variation of powder charges didn't seem to be an issue with accuracy though.

I switched to WSF and gave 6.3 gr. a try and the accuracy was just as good in the older Sig, the new Colt 1911, and the newer Sig 220. I chrono'd this load, and it is kinda on the mild side running in the 1200s.

All this typing about .38 Super has got the itch flared up. Gonna tote the Colt along when I mow the gun range today.

Every chance I've had to shoot lately, it has been raining. The few times it wasn't, the 'skeeters were almost unbearable (you think they would eventually get full)!

Ain't rained much in Dixie lately.

Today I painted the inside of one of my Pappy's duplexes, came home and went to a fantastic Italian restaurant with my lovely bride, then ended the day with a jeep ride to the range with a good friend of mine. The backseat was packed with a mess of .38 Super handloads and a pair of Sig P220s chambered in .38 Super. The shooting transitioned into a few sips of apple pie from a mason jar which happened to be in the jeep. It was homemade just like the ammo.

I've had easier off days, and I've had worse.
