Why am I not surprised at this. What part of Democracy, Constitution, and Freedom does this :clown2: not get.

Obama: “I’m working on gun control under the radar” (http://www.greeleygazette.com/press/?p=9614)

by Jack Minor

While the Obama administration said it is committed to gun rights, a gun control advocate has spilled the beans, saying Obama is using stealth to work on firearms restrictions.

The Washington Post did a story on Steve Croley, the White House gun control czar. Croley is considered to be an expert on regulation and tort law. His approach to gun control appears to be a regulatory one.

According to the article, Jim and Sarah Brady visited Capital Hill on March 30, the 30th anniversary of the assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan; to push for a ban on "large magazines."

The couple reportedly were meeting with press secretary, Jay Carney, when, according to Sarah Brady, the President came in. She said the President told her he wanted to talk about gun control and "fill us in that it was very much on his agenda."

She went on to say Obama told her, "I just want you to know that we are working on it. We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar."

The statement reinforces an article in the Huffington Post describing how the administration is exploring ways to bypass Congress and enact gun control through executive action.

The Department of Justice reportedly is holding meetings discussing the White House's options for enacting regulations on its own or through adjoining agencies and departments. "Administration officials said talk of executive orders or agency action are among a host of options that President Barack Obama and his advisers are considering. "

Dudley Brown, Executive Director of the National Association of Gun rights and Colorado's Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, says he is not surprised to hear the President is trying to unilaterally enact gun control regulations. "It’s clear that President Obama and Sarah Brady have been using the ATF to enact what they can’t get through Congress: a ban on the importation of self defense shotguns, new reporting requirements for multiple rifle sales, and the attempt to smuggle firearms across the border to Mexican gang members are just a few examples."

Anyone know what Jim Brady's postion on gun control was before he was shot? I haven't been able to find much. Everything is post wounding.

I personally don't buy it. Al Gore picked a fight with the gun lobby to court favor with the soccer moms and it cost him his bid against George Bush. Obama got alot of disfranchised republican votes to make it into office. The lessons from Gore / Bush are still pretty clear and with the republican party redefining itself I don't think Obama (if this is true) is doing anything more than giving lip service to the Bradys.

I'm not spouting support for Obama here but I know that he's a sharper politician than me, and if I can figure this much out, I'm sure he's seen this angle. Frankly, the possible gains don't compare to the possible losses.

I don't see it.

It's just troll bait.

I would like to agree with you. But he has done some stupid stuff lately that seems like political suicide. I tend to think the strategy is to quietly put everything in place and spring it after the election when he's a lame duck (hopefully) or re-elected (which is scarier). I'm not sure how quick a couple of the possible Republican candidates would remove his changes, especially Romney. Gingrich, Palin, and others would do it immediately. Once regulations are implemented they become entrenched way to easily.

I would think this story would be a banner on the NRA-ILA dot.org site were it proven (or even suspected) to be true and of huge magnitude. The "article" is really just something supposedly written by a guy named Jack Minor (who is he?) . What I take from this is that somebody wants it to seem like Obams's perceived goals for gun control are painted with a broad brush. However there are mentioned only some very finite and limited goals such as store owners reporting multiple rifle sales.

I don't agree with an single one of these ideas BTW.

Just like Democrats are chided for "never letting a good crisis go to waste", the good ol' NRA never lets its members forget that right now is the most important and crucial time in history to contribute money to stop the gun-haters.

EeeeeeeK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gun Control???? Really???????

A story that big, and no other news corp or even legitimate blog site other than Huffington is picking this up? Color me incredulous for now. I hope I am proven right.

In 1942 FDR signed Executive Order 9066 and that action was "allowed" because of the national emergency at the time, regardless of how incredibly irrational and unconstitutional it is now believed in retrospect. It (9066) was a horrible decision, obviously. But the US at the time was a nation of white folks and all other races and nationalities were kept silent. The mere mention of 9066 continues to plague Presidents who have contemplated trampling on the US Constitution via Executive Order. We are now under no such national emergency and an Executive Order of the magnitude such as "National Gun Control" would not pass public scrutiny.

But we're not hearing much of anything about "National Gun Control" really; merely some considered BATF bullschidt restrictions that we all can get around or overturn were we so inclined. And who really thinks that FN-Herstal or Beretta (with major US DOD weapons contracts) would have their shotguns banned for import because a shotgun can be used for self-defense? Puhh-Leeeze.

There. I said it. Stand by every word, too. Any all-encompasing gun control action by a sitting president (as hinted about by some internet dude named Jack Minor) will never occur.

"I'm nitesite. And I approved this message."

And as a fond rememberence to JJB, I'll end this with a

.

I am reminded of John McCain recently speaking out against torture even though the CIA admitted that water boarding got us the info that led to Usama. Of course, McCain is against it as he was tortured but he didn't know anything at the time. Not the "big picture." In other words, McCain is not objective nor is Mr. Brady. Surely, it is indeed tragic what happened to Brady but asking his opinion on gun control is like asking someone who has lost a family member to a drunk driver their opinion on Jack Daniels whisky. Their answer is not objective, but rather on a personal emotional level and laws should never be passed on emotion.

To your question: I have no idea what Brady's opinion was on gun control before 1981. Sorry for my ramble.

Since this thread began, Operation Fast and Furious might well have been what Obama was referring to. Just look at the information that has come out since June.

Slotback, you might be on to something. Of course F&F was a horrible disaster, so they'll need to move on to the next option.

I'm more of the mindset that this adm. won't do a thing about the 2nd Amendment issues unless re-elected.

Presidant Barrack Hussan Obama, could be video taped handing out firearms from the back of a truck, to the drug dealers, and they will still use it against the American people.
