Hello,
I'm flying the family out to visit relatives west of the Mississippi this summer and want to do a lot of shooting 9mm while there. I think it would be a lot cheaper to ship 1000 of my own reloads there instead of paying full factory ammo prices for 1000 once I get there.

I know that Georgia Arms and other online ammo mfgrs ship their ammo all over the country. Does anyone have experience with doing this? What problems/fees/restrictions will I be running into? Anyone prefer a certain carrier for shipping ammo?
By the way I would be shipping them to a private residence.
Thanks,
Shovel

No fees. It's not HazMat.

Ship UPS ground.

Need ORM-D sticker on it.

That's about it.

As a addon to FS10mm's post
MUST be shipped from a hub, from your company shipping dock or (I think) from your home.
Can NOT be shipped from a storefront "drop off point" IE "Mailboxes are us", Kinko's, local drug or hardware store, etc.

Shipping via the US Mail can get you a 5yr vacation at Club Fed, and they'll be happy to introduce you to your newest bestest friend there, his name is Bubba.

I ship from a UPS customer service center that is a third party. No issues. I declare it small arms ammunition, point out the ORM-D sticker, pay, and leave.

Thanks for the quick response, FS. There is a UPS Store about a mile from the house that I will ask. I asked one shipping place by my house and they will not ship ammo. That is the reason of this post. Nice to know about the ORM-D sticker also.

Checked with UPS regarding this as I set up a business account with them. All HazMat must be on a contractual basis, but ORM-D Small Arms Ammunition is not HazMat, it's ORM-D. Just needs a sticker and can be shipped from a third party service center, UPS Store, UPS Customer Service center, or a home or business with a regular UPS account.

Freak,
when I shipped the 32 H&R to you, I went to my closest local 3rd. party and called two others. No go, they said I had to go to a hub.

I did'nt have the ORM-D sticker and did not see the clerk at the hub add one. I do know you need one. Every time I've purchased online it had one.

I'm not disagreeing, just stating my [one] time shipping. :cornut:

There's a place 20 miles away in Houghton. They handle UPS and FedEx. Shipping ammo through them is as follows:

Declare it small arms ammunition to the clerk.

Show them the ORM-D label. It can be a hand written with a Sharpie. Just as long as the box says "ORMD" or "ORM-D" once.

Pay the shipping via UPS ground.

Walk out of the store.

Done it a few times.

Or them damn clueless Yoopers.

It's a different world up here. Lots of people walk around with a fixed blade knife on their belt. Illegal in MI as all get out, but cops don't bash and eye about it. If you aren't using it illegally, they could care less.

Shovel66,

How did it go for you?
I was asking the question way in advance to avoid hassles at the last minute. I don't fly out until June. Will probably be shipping 500 rounds of 9mm out at the end of the month or early May and another 500 later if the first 500 go well.
Will let you know.

1 Have you ever spoken to freek? 2 maybe done business with him? 3 Do you always disengage your brain before engaging your mouth?

I have talked to him AT LENGTH and find him both well informed and professional.

I have done business with him both buy and sell, again very professional.

You, well, I'll just say it will be fun watching you get both feet out of your mouth.

I don't need advice from SSDD45 (in PM no less) bashing Freak. I'd buy from Freak over some yutz any day of the week - never seen Adam mis-represent himself, or mislead anybody.
