Why would someone even consider buying a Garand from anywhere other than CMP.
They are Cheaper. They are authentic, They come with way cheap ammo. in my experience the parts match.
SO why do anything else.

There are a ****-ton of DCM/CMP rifles out there and some will come up for sale from time to time. You get to see what you are getting rather than hope for the best. The CMP lotto does work out for most overall.

I was just trying to say you can buy the ammo from CMP once you have an account with them.
Thats all I was trying to say.

When I bought garands when they were out. I have bought a bunch of ammo from them though. I need to buy a correct from them.
Also, there are some requirement to purchase that could be a pain for some.

A Pain? I know made it harder than it really was by not knowing my retired Navy ID card was good enough for a CMP aff. club requirement. Cost me an extra $35.00.
I would get the correct. I've read they appear to be shot little.

In washington all I had to do was send them CCW and a copy of my membership card.
This was not too hard. But it might be harder for others.

I joined the Garand Collector's association and sent a copy of my CWP. It was a bit more hassle than I would have liked, but in the end I have a great Garand with some real authenticity behind it.

Can't get a CWP in CA so I had to do an 03 FFL not real hard but it has stopped some and slowed me down for a bit.

You couldn't show you've been shooting?

Maybe if you know someone and submit to a body cavity search. From what I understand it is very difficult and you have to have a "need". I must admit I have not tried though.

???? That is not the requirement.
Current or past military service.
Current or past law enforcement service
Participation in a rifle, pistol, air gun or shotgun competition (provide copy of results bulletin).
Completion of a marksmanship clinic that included live fire training (provide a copy of the certificate of completion or a statement from the instructor).
Distinguished, Instructor, or Coach status.
Concealed Carry License.
Firearms Owner Identification Cards that included live fire training.
FFL or C&R license.
Completion of a Hunter Safety Course that included live fire training.
Certification from range or club official or law enforcement officer witnessing shooting activity. A form for use in completing and certifying your range firing can be downloaded from the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/Forms/marksmanship.pdf
No proof of marksmanship required if over age 60. proof of club membership and citizenship required for all ages.I assume you are talking about the third. No, I did not know where to go for a competition in this area. FFL 03 was easier and good for other things.
I admit, it is not that hard to get but I do know a few people that would buy a Garand from the CMP but they have been too lazy to get the papers together. Just as well I suppose.

It depends what county you live in. In San Bernardino they give them out like candy on Holloween.
