An old shooting buddy of mine is cleaning out his gun safe and offered me a 98% S&W Mdl 25-2 in 45 ACP. I shot this pistol many years ago and we got along very well as I could not miss with it. The pistol has one of the best actions I have shot. My buddy wants $500.00. My first reaction is I've drooled on this pistol for years. The problem is I have no real need for a 45 ACP wheel gun. Plus I would have to go to So Cal to pick it up. I don't have a problem taking a fine firearm out of Cal and bringing it to freedom, but I just don't have a real need right now.
Please tell me what you think I should do.
Why? Cuz he won't ship it to your FFL?
I had 2 of these, both had .457" cylinder throats and leaded like there was no tommorrow. They are jacketed-only guns. I heard that some later ones had decent throats, but not mine.
I currently have two 625-7 PC guns which are pretty nice. I'd look at those before buying a 1955.

How can you lose on a $500 deal for a 98% M-25?

Well I know you can't.
918....Like I said in my post I've shot the pistol before and I shot it with lead. I was stationed at China Lake for 4 years with the pistols owner. I would have to say I've always compaired the 625's to the 25 in question and thought the 625's came up short. With this 25, the bullets go where your sights are and has the absolute slickest action I've seen so far. :prrr:
I just don't see a real need for a 45 ACP wheel gun at this time......but I'm going to buy if I have to send 1 $ at a time.

There is nothing funner to shoot then a N Frame S&W in 45ACP with plenty of full moon clips at hand...Not a darn thing in my book!

+1 If you have the funds, get the gun. Even if you don't go pick it up right away.

True that. And not just guns--Penn fishing reels, and a boat to use them with have been recently justified with just such rationale. Look out, yellowtail.

It's crazy to pass up a 98% M1955 Target, especially at $500.
