I am looking for another 9mm pistol, and I just cant see the use in purchasing another full-size 9mm. I carry concealed when I go out, and usually tuck my taurus M85 revolver. I would like to look at a nice in-between carry gun, perhaps bigger than my revolver- for accuracy sake, but small enough to conceal easily. I really like the ruger SR9, but I just feel the grip is too big to conceal well under a tee-shirt (hopefully they come out with some compact models soon)

I am looking for something along the lines of a G19 or perhaps a bit smaller. The new Taurus 709 Slim looks like it might fit the ticket pretty well, and the new kahr CW9 doesnt look bad, but the walther P99c really caught my eye.

How finicky are these things with ammo? I have a friend that has a full size P99 and it seems very picky. Any suggestions on this firearm? Anyone that has any experience please let me know the ins and outs of these.

Thanks!

I bought a slightly used P99 FS in 9mm about a year ago. I've ran a couple of thousand rounds through it without a hiccup of any kind. I've only cleaned it 4x or so.

Walther Forums (http://www.waltherforums.com/vb/) is a good resource you might check out. My take on the P99 and most Walther guns are that they are extremely reliable and those who like them love them and are loyal. Count me in that group.

My walther p99 is by far my favorite 9mm pistol. I have owned a lot of 9mm. it is wonderful.

I think you will find that the P99c will live up to any high expectation that you have.

It is a little larger than a g26 but is smaller than g19.

I would however encourage you to more deeply consider the kahr P9. My Kahr is my favorite CCW . It is light, slim it is small enough to carry easily. Yet it is large enough to take to the range and short comfortably.

I've owned one for a few months (also a G26, HK P2000sk .40 LEM subcompacts) in 9mm AS trigger, and I LOVE it. The trigger reset is crazy short, better than a Glock. I'm a DA/SA guy, and this gun does that (also the option of a LEM/DAK style pre-cocked first shot). I've put about 1000-1200 rounds through it, no FTF or stovepipes, but one light primer strike. Could have been a bad primer, not seated deep enough, or maybe the gun. Who knows.

The chamber is a little tight. I had to start seating my 9mm 125gr LRNs deeper (pretty much such that very little bearing surface of the bullet is poking out of the case) for them to freely drop in. 147gr LFN are a no go. I haven't tried FMJs.

The warranty on the book is 1 year, but people say S&W (the importer) will take care of you lifetime.

I would buy a "full size" P99 also, but it's more of a compact than a FS.

I've had one for a few years. CCW class, target, range messin' around...not a single failure of any kind...even with my reloads. Maybe 2500 rounds. It's accurate, reliable, and attractive looking. Little expensive, but I love it. If it were stolen, I'd buy another in a heartbeat. Love that AS trigger.

The best miniature 9mm on the market is the Kahr P9. I've owned and shot plenty. Nothing is as light and compact as a P9.

it weighs as much as a loaded glock 19 magazine and has about the same recoil. Very comfortable and concealable.

Having said that I prefer a snub nose .38 when I go out.

I ran accross a like new/used one a few months back. I had wanted one for years so when I saw this one I snapped it up. I got it home and after a couple of magazines I was feeling a little less enthused. It just didn't agree with my trigger finger. I have medium/large hands and it would pinch the bottom of my booger hook every time. I took it back after only a week and the sales guy was nice enough to trade me straight up for a brand new XD 45 service.

Edit to add: mine was the fullsized model

The FS Walther P99 is the most comfortable pistol I've got. Although I'm a little more accurate with the new Kimber TLE II.

When did you buy that?

My P99 (fullsize) has been 100% flawless, unless you are counting weak reloads that stovepiped; i dont count those, as the ammo was clearly underpowered. I like it so much i bought a 2nd one for a long-term safe queen backup.

I'm not a fan of the compact, only because i dont care for short grips; i dont like the G26 for the same reason. But as far as the base gun goes, I'm one of the biggest P99 fans you'll find.

When did you buy that?

Monday. Gun 14 Wilson Magazines, Galco OWB holster/double mag carrier, case, and paperwork for $800. Less than 200 rounds. Local seller, 2nd time I've bought a gun from him that he didn't like. Shoots nice but I need some time learning the 1911 ropes regarding the safety. I'll be doing lots of dry handling to get used to it. I think I got a bargain. Ordered a Milt Sparks VM II. Should be here in 6 months.
