I have been reloading now for about 5 years and from the beginning, I have always used 180gr bullets weight for my G23C 40 cal, and 230gr for my two Colts (5" Govt & 3 " Defender). Well just the other day I found some 165gr 40cal bullets in the back of my closet and decided to try them out. I honestly can't remember where I got them as I know for sure I didn't purchase them. Anyhow, boy were they ever accurate compared to my everyday 180 gr. On my reloading box it was noted it was W231 @ 4.8 grs. This got me thinking why don't I try something different for my 45 Colts other then 230gr fmj's. Consequently I'm interested in what other bullet weights/powder others use for 45 cal with emphasis on W231 or Powder Pistol (powder I presently have on had at the moment). I will note that in every case, I have ALLWAYS (don't ask me why) have used "FMJ's" exclusively and would prefer to keep that aspect of reloading materials constant. I'm looking forward to your comments and/or experiences ..... Thanks :cheezy:

Hello,

I just like 230-gr bullets for .45 Auto, but like you might one day try something "new" (to me).

For .45 ACP, 200 gr. SWC, are very good. I, am certain you can find them in FMJ, I, just don't know where.

200g xtp over 8.1g power pistol is 1030 fps of 45acp accurate heat

Another vote for 200gr SWC in the 45acp. I run cast through my 1911 with 4gr of Bullseye and it's very accurate. I know you want to stick with FMJ, so as Rollis already said, try to find that weight in FMJ and you might be quite please with the results.
