:confused5: What are the new ones made out of? I have seen the older brass ones that I understand aren't being manufactured anymore. I saw the photos of the newer black colored ones on the Dillon website. There is no description/specifications of them. Plastic? Cast Pot metal? Alumimium? Are they as heavy as the brass ones?
Thanks,
Shovel

looks like painted/coated aluminum but it is heavy enough for me not to be so sure......

Mogo might stumble along and chime in on it......

At least it's large and made of metal. I have one of those $3.00 little clear plastic trays that is slightly larger than an Oreo cookie. :( The corners of the primer blister packs hang over the edge of the tray when I dump the 100 primers on the ridged half of the tray. I'm also told that they warp easy if stored in a hot garage or outdoor shed.
Thanks for the reply,
Shovel

The Dillon is nice, it will fit all the different primer packages, but whether it is aluminum, or pot metal I can’t say.

Flip trays have always been made of a zinc casting alloy-#3 or #4, not sure which- and originally cadnium plated. Due to EPA constraints, we can't cadnium plate them anymore, so they are black-laquered.:blues:

The nice guy at Berry's Bullets booth at the SHOT SHOW let me have one of their clear blue primer flip trays.
It is perfect. Takes those nasty Federal SPP&LPP plastic trays all the way. Plus when the mixed up and down facing primers are on the grooved side, all you have to do is tap it a bit and they all right side up.
Best I ever saw. Buy the Berry's one.

Mogollon,
So even the heavy old ones that look like brass and are brass colored were made of a zinc casting alloy and cadmium plated? And I realize that brass is a makeup of zinc and copper.

why does anyone waste time shaking these things?

Open primer sleeve
turn ridged half of "flip" tray upside down and put on top of plastic primer packing tray
turn both upside down, remove primer packing tray
use tube to pickup the 4 or 5 primers that are ass end up
put smooth side of flip tray on top, turn both over
remove ridged side of primer flip tray and use tube to pick up the other 95 primers now ass end up.
no shakee = save time and frustration over that last one that won't flip.

Unless you buy Federal then you got to shakey a little. But never till the bitter end like you said.

It is so heavy my wife thought about beating me over the head with it instead of the skillet. I love it. I will never take for granted a primer tray big enough for every box of primers on the market. That damn Lee hand primer tray is so small I used to dump the primers in a ziplock bag and then from the ziplock bag onto the tray. Buy one...buy two just because they are that good...lol
