This here is what I would like to do to my Marlin. Add a big lever loop and a leather buttstock cover with the ability to hold a few cartridges. I wouldn't be interested in the engraving or case hardening. With as much as I enjoy and shoot my .45-70 I wouldn't have much of an issue with spending a little money on it.
