I recently bought an old model 10 that looked like it spent the last 15 years in a car trunk next to a leaky battery. Finish is so bad I named the gun "Tactical". Clean chambers and barrel and the inside had a bit of remaining lube. Sanded off the rust, cleaned, lubed, and cut springs. Shoots fine and is accurate. Grips were really old Pachmyer grippers that were hard and slick and different configuration than the present grippers. I dug through my grip drawer and found Presentation grips for an N frame that stated the grips are for N frames and smaller. WTH: mounted 'em on the model 10 and there is about a quarter inch space between the top of the grip and the recoil shield.
What tactical accessory do you recommend to fill the space?

C4N; poor, old, non tech, medicare recipient here. No camera, no high speed, no answering machine. Eat pet food so I can buy components. Some pet food is nearly palatable. No probs with weight gain on that type diet.
See the Mullah's pic for the after. The before pic would give you diahrea.

Perfect shooter to run across, good for you. I've encountered gun's in the same or worse external condition and have alway's had them bead blasted and either blued or parked. But that was before all of the excellent finishing paint's for guns came on the market. Me, I'd still beadblast and blue it because I'm old school about my guns. As for you any option you choose for the finish will make you happy. Stick a new set of grips on your gun and a dab of paint on the front sight and have fun.

If they went in the oven together, would the fumes off the pet food ruin the guncoat?

Not much longer, maybe. She been missin' ya all these years, figured you had amnesia. You want to see her in this life, better hurry.

I know dat right jawja. Thems 'sposed to be the real original lyrics as written down in '61 by Daniel Decatur Emmett hisself, but I wern't there myself to confirm it. We end wid a cheerier verse:
Dar's buckwheat cakes an' Injun batter,
Makes you fat or a little fatter;
Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land.
Den hoe it down and scratch your grabble,
To Dixie's land I'm bound to trabble,
Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land
Den I wish I was in Dixie, Hoo-ray! Hoo-ray!
In Dixie land, I'll take my stand to lib and die in Dixie;
Away, away, away down south in Dixie,
Away, away, away down south in Dixie.

Finally took old "tactical" to the range today. HBWC 3" at 25 yards for 18 shots, 158 lswc 3.5" for 18 shots, soft lead 9mm 147 rnfp at 3.5" for 18 shots. NO LEADING. Good old gun for sights in the frame and old shooting eyes. I corked up the grip to frame gap with a stretchy animal bandage piece, shoved in with a pin punch. The CRB way.

I advise getting a new set of grips that fit. Also consider having it reblued.
