Would this make a good burner for smelting? It cost $42.99

It a work great.

Just make sure ya add some support if ya pot get over about 250 or so.

I've run 300 lbs on one like it, an it held up, but it was strainin

Ya, 250lb of molten lead flying at ya after a leg lets go is bad juju for sure. I think you could put about anything under it from cinder block to brick to pavers just to keep the weight off those spindly legs.
