I just wanted to let you know in case you need one. I just bought a 6 quart cast iron dutch oven from Harbor Freight today for $12.

So what does that equate to in lbs of lead?

Mine's a 14 quart Lodge and when it's full I can barely lift it, and I'm a super big lumberjack he-man.

That handle looks a little flimsy for hauling lead.

By the title of the post, I thought this was about something else...something that my wife does not think is half as funny as I do. Actually, it pisses her off pretty badly.

Well, if your wife is Dutch and you are referring to anatomy I can understand why...lol.

22 quart DO more that 1/2 full will start to bend the legs on your fryer if you don't brace it.

This was 300+ lbs of berm pickins iirc

I don't know about you Cohutt, but there was a bit of pucker involved when I first started to realize the pot was becoming increasingly not level.

So something in the teens as far as quarts should be cool for 75-100lbs at a time?

Dont know about quarts, but the one rusty purchased will do as many as you will need at a time.

i set mine up at a slight tilt to be able to ladle a little more out towards the bottom of the pot.
The bricks were added before the lead and were a little loose until it started getting full. They wouldn't budge after.......

I think mine is in between, It holds about 100 to 120 or so. Looks like the harbor freight one but I found it at a yard sale...

3 1/2 inches in the 22 quart DO tonight yielded 27 6.25 lb bricks or 162 lbs, not counting the bit left in the bottom for next time.
I've had it over 6 inches deep before but don't push it anymore.
