Who here has experience with loading this cartridge? I am looking at a Scout M6 .22 Hornet/410 and want to know what it is capable of before I buy. Looks decent with lighter bullets, but I am sure that the lack of case capacity hurts in comparison to the .222/223.

Thanks,
Tyger

If you have seen a similar post by me somewhere else, I am sorry. Thanks for the replies!

i had a couple of ruger 77s in .22 hornet and neither were very accurate and over all i didn't like it .ended up with a NE handi rifle in 22 hornet and could seat the bullets out much longer and up case capacity a bit. i used 52 gr. HPBTs and it was twice as accurate as the rugers. down side to the hornet is it's a 100-150 yard rifle and a pretty weak one at that as far as killing power goes.

Plus, it can be a royal PITA deluxe ta load.

Brass life ain't dat great.

Onliest bullets worth a damn is da 35-40gr range for most guns an they ain't exactly anythang ta write home about

It hit like a girl

Can be fun on a coyote, maybe, but it ain't gonna bring ya da level a joy ya want if ya hate those bastidges like I do

Oh yeah, brass ain't cheap an those Hornady an Sierra bullets ain't exactly low cost either.

I a rather load .380 ACP for da Knob Creek night shoot wit a Lee loader an a rubber hose before I a load .22 Hornet again

Da K a lil better, but not much

For real.

Like everyone has said, it's not a real powerhouse, but it is fun to plink prairie dogs with out to 150 yards. I use 35 grain Speers, H110, and small pistol primers (actually decreased group size compared to small rifle). With this combination, I am getting over 3200 fps consistently, which more than enough to smack prairie rats.

It certainly isn't a .223, but if you wanted a .223 then you'd get a .223, right?

I've got a Ruger 77/22H that is accurate enough at the ranges it will be used for. Longest kill to date is 274 yards on a gopher. Took 2 shots but that was just trajectory, I think.

I shoot the Hornady 40 gr. V-Max over 13 gr. Li'l Gun. Can't remember the primer offhand. The pain for the Rugers, as already mentioned, is having to seat the bullets in so far to fit the magazine. The magazines can be opened up, but sounds like it won't be an issue for you.

thanks guys.

That is about what I expected as far as power out of the casing. I have good varmint rifles (.22-250 in Win M70 Coyote, and .223 in CZ 550), but I have always been intereted in the Scout combo rifles. I wish they made them in .223, but the Hornet is it.

We have one for a good price here in utah right now, so I might go check it out. I have been saving for an AR, and I want a Saiga .223 so it's always a question of what to get first:incazzato:

Thanks,
Tyger

It's one Crow/Starling killing rifle around My Parents house. There is like a 100 Yard "No Fly Zone" around there.

Starlings just explode behind the crosshairs in a Puff of feathers. Mung,Drool and meaty substance is Hanging from the tree limbs. Odd thing though, when theres enough left, the Hogs next door wont eat a dead starling........

Crazy4, I think it would be great around your folks house watchin all those crows and starlings go "poof". All they do around here is crap on stuff. I hate those birds...
