I got another powder question. Anyone use vihtavuori for 308 win? I was wondering which one to get, or if I should even try this powder? This will be for 165ishGR hunting bullets.

Thanks! :)

I like VV150 under 168grSMK in the 308. Very consistent powders.

I talked with somebody at Vihtavuori about loading 308 for auto rifles. He told me not use the 500 series ("high energy") powders in an auto. He strongly recommended N-140. The Sako catalog shows a factory load of 42.4 grains of N-140 with a 165 grain hunting bullet(velocity = 825 meters per second). The factory 168 grain match load uses 43.1 grains of N-140(velocity = 820 meters per second). These use Sako cases.

The 2008 Vihtavuori load guide shows the following loads.

165 grain bullet - 40.1gr to 46.3 grains N-140 - Lapua case - Speer bullet

168 grain bullet - 36.2gr to 42.8 grains N-140 - Lapua case - Sierra bullet

older data

The 2002 Vihtavuori load guide

165gr Speer - 40.6gr to 44.9 grains N-140

168gr Sierra - 38.3gr to 42.9 grains N-140

I would use only VV powder if they weren't $5- $10 more a pound , than the others . Its great stuff for all types of reloading .
