I trust very few people to do a job right.
Our society is just not geared to doing things right anymore.
I was raised to do the job right the first time or not do it at all.

I had a nice 1911 butchered years ago and have not trusted anyone but myself to work on my handguns since. I would send it off to a major shop but I am very leery of locals. They will furk it up and brag on what a nice job they did.

I still mostly shoot Glocks. Can't imagine having to have anybody work on them but me.

I have one gunsmith who I have always gone to, he was also my fathers gunsmith so he is getting kind of old. He is a little eccentric, but does excellent work, and has never steered me wrong on anything gun related. He is the only one who I would let touch any of my guns besides the factory. If anything ever happens to him, I'm lost.

Shadowdog500,
Time to talk to the old gent & see if he'd allow you to sit in on a few work sessions.
Don't talk, ask only a little & watch everything.

Like the old Kraut machinist that I learned from said, & told all of his apprentices;
"You haff two eyes, two ears und von mouth. Use dem in dat proportion !"
A wise lesson indeed !

You can't polish a turd but you can gild it.

Anyone ever deal with the Product Wizard? I bought a holster in September from them and it didn't fit my G26 right, so I checked out their return policy and returned it. I have written two letters and an email and they won't answer me and won't return my 79.99. Now they have the holster and my 79.99.

Did you put it on a credit card? Have it charged back.

I have a similar feeling about quality craftsmen these days!

There was a guy in Okeechobee who claimed to be the cat's meow of gunsmiths... SUCKED!!!

The guy we've gone to locally a few times... seems to suck so far!

The new local guy I brought my 870 to for an ejector repair... did good work, but is SLOWER THAN FROZEN MOLASSES!!!

It almost makes me want to go to gunsmith school to show them what pride in your job means, anymore. :zoo_taz:

If y'all need an excellent 'smith, Tailgunner's smith in MI is quite well known and his work is second to none.

Be warned though, you get what you pay for. He ain't the cheapest 'smith around, but his work is second to none.

Most smiths do three kinds of work: good, fast, and cheap.......pick any two.
